Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua talks halted 'out of respect' for Queen Elizabeth II

Talks for the ‘Battle of Britain’ between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have been put on hold following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Fury made the shock move of offering Joshua a shot at his WBC heavyweight title on Monday, determined to fight before the end of the year.

Joshua accepted The Gypsy King’s offer of 40 per cent of the fight purse said to be worth £75million but discussions over a fight date rumbled on throughout the week. Fury offered up two dates of 26 November and 3 December with Joshua’s team eager to wait until 17 December.

On Thursday, Fury revealed a deadline for the end of the day, posting hourly videos urging Joshua to accept his terms or walk away. That afternoon however the Queen’s passing was confirmed with the United Kingdom entering an official period of mourning.

While a deadline appeared to be looming, fight talk was quicky forgotten with both Fury and Joshua paying tribute to the monarch, with no further updates emerging from either camp.

Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, has now confirmed negotiations have been paused.

‘We’ve put it all on hold at the moment. It wasn’t appropriate obviously. That’s how we feel,’ Fury told talkSPORT.
