Tyson Fury told to avoid 300lbs plan vs Wilder – by rival’s own sparring partner
Tyson Fury has received some advice from a rather unlikely source, ahead of his upcoming trilogy clash with Deontay Wilder.
Ahead of the bout, now set to take place on October 9, the Gypsy King has made headlines after claiming that he wanted to weigh in even heavier than his previous two bouts against Wilder.
Fury admitted at a June press conference that he wanted to weigh an enormous 300lbs for the trilogy contest.
“I anticipate it's going to be like an 18-wheeler running over somebody, and that's what you're gonna see,” Fury claimed.
"I’m building my weight up, trying to get up to 300lbs for this fight. Because I’m looking for a big knockout straight away.”
If Fury is to weigh 300lbs in the October clash, the WBC champion will weigh 30lbs more than in his 2020 rematch with Wilder, and 44lbs more than in the pair’s 2018 clash.
300lbs is also 70lbs more than Wilder weighed in their rematch, and a whopping 90lbs more than the Bronze Bomber weighed in their 2018 bout!

However, Fury’s plans were recently criticised by American heavyweight Stephan Shaw, who claimed in an interview with The Sun that the Gypsy King was “perfect” at his previous weight.
Strangely, Shaw’s advice comes just a few weeks after he spent a fortnight training with Wilder. Perhaps the Missouri-based heavyweight knows something Fury’s camp don’t.
"I don't feel like Tyson Fury should come into the fight 300-pounds, he was perfect at 275, not 300. That will take away from some of the athleticism that he does have.”
Tyson Fury is set to meet Deontay Wilder on October 9 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
While the fight was originally slated for July 24, the Gypsy King tested positive for COVID-19 on July 8 and was forced out of the bout.
The clash will now take place nearly 20 months since their previous fight, which saw Fury knock out Wilder in just seven rounds.
While ring rust didn’t seem to play a part when the Gypsy King met the Bronze Bomber in their first clash, it will be intriguing to see if the major delay between fights plays a part in either man’s performance.
