Tyson Fury told he would get ‘eaten for dinner’ by Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis

Tyson Fury's comeback story and undefeated career means he has a claim to be one of the very best heavyweights boxing has ever seen in the eyes of some.

But Frank Bruno is not convinced that they Gypsy King would be able to hold his own against some of those who starred in the division while he was in his fighting prime.

Bruno put aside his friendship with Fury to claim he is on "a different cloud" to the one he was on when he was fighting.

And he does not believe the Briton would be able to compete against the likes of Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis when they were at the peak of their powers.

"He knows deep down in his heart if he was around in my day, they’d eat him for dinner, and breakfast as well," Bruno told DAZN.

"I'm not going to sit here and disrespect Tyson Fury, but we're talking about a different era. He's living on a different cloud to what I was on.

"Good luck to him, he's number one, he deserves to be number one. I've got a lot of respect for him."

Bruno also gave his thoughts on the Gypsy King's expected next outing after retaining his WBC title against Deontay Wilder.

Could Tyson Fury hold his own against the best heavyweights of the 1990s? Have your say in the comments section.

Fury won his Las Vegas trilogy fight with the Bronze Bomber, finding the knockout blow in the 11th round of a slugfest for the ages to extend his unbeaten professional record to 32 bouts.

He was hoping that would set up a meeting with the winner of Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk's rematch to unify the division, but there is one more hurdle in his way before he can attempt that.

That's because the WBC has ordered him to fight mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, with the exact date still to be finalised.

It's not the blockbuster bout with Joshua he wanted, but Fury will still be taking part in one of the biggest all-British fights since Bruno lost to Lewis in 1993.

Bruno is looking forward to the match-up: "It's a good fight, Dillian Whyte is very powerful. Tyson Fury is dangerous and can box.

"What he's learned, Dillian Whyte wouldn’t know, it would break him. If [Whyte] hits Fury he'll hit the floor. Tyson Fury is going to show him some movements and upset him. He can adapt.

"If you're southpaw he can southpaw, if you dig deep he can dig deep. He fought the most dangerous man on the planet, Deontay Wilder, who threw his toys out of the pram."
