Tyson Fury shares touching update on baby daughter as she remains in ICU
Tyson Fury posted an emotional update about the health of his newborn baby on his Instagram account on Wednesday evening.
Fury and his wife Paris welcomed baby Athena, their sixth child and third daughter, into the world on Sunday, but the newborn has struggled with health issues since her birth and has been in and out of the intensive care unit in Alder Hey hospital.
But signs appear to be good for the baby as Fury posted this message on an Instagram story: "Update for everyone. Athena is doing well and has had a stable day off ventilator.
"Thanks to everyone for the prayers, still in ICU for now.
"Thanks to all the doctors and nurses. God bless you all."
It has been a tumultuous week for the heavyweight champion for Wythenshawe. He announced the baby's birth with this message on Sunday evening: "Please can everyone pray for my baby girl who was born this morning. Athena Fury born 8/8/21. Thanks. God is great."
However on Tuesday he posted again that the baby had returned to the ICU at the hospital, with his wife Paris providing another emotional update on Wednesday afternoon that Athena was making progress via her Instagram story.
Paris shared a video of the baby alongside the caption: "My beautiful baby girl this morning.
"More awake now and sucking her dummy.
"She has a big day today. Please God, it goes well."
Fury revealed that his wife was pregnant in an interview with Gareth A Davies in February. Fury said: "Paris is pregnant again and the Lord has blessed us definitely with another child and I'm very thankful."
Paris had revealed that the baby was likely to be born prematurely owing to a personal condition on an episode of Loose Women. She said: "I usually have a condition that makes the babies come a bit earlier so it will probably be the beginning of August, which is better for me, the last few weeks are terrible!"
Fury was due to fight Deontay Wilder for a third time in July, however the bout cancelled owing to a Covid-19 outbreak in his camp. The boxer himself and his cousin and assistant coach Andy Lee both came down with the virus.
The fight has been rescheduled for October 9 in Las Vegas.
