Tyson Fury shares tips on how to ‘distract’ opponent as Joshua saga continues
Tyson Fury is known for his craft inside the ring and out of it, and the Gypsy King has been passing on his wisdom to training partner Stevie McKenna, as the fallout from his proposed fight with Anthony Joshua continues.
Fury has been training for a superfight with Joshua in recent months in Las Vegas but the Manchester boxer is now set to take on Deontay Wilder on July 24 after a US court of arbitration ruling earlier this week.
Whilst in the States, Fury was training alongside super lightweight McKenna ahead of the Irishman’s fight on Saturday night with Damian Haus.
And the 24-year-old revealed Fury has been giving him some valuable advice going into the contest at the Skydome in Coventry.
"He [Fury] called me into the ring and showed me a few things," McKenna told Sky Sports. "I got to learn from Tyson.
"He's a great man and it was unbelievable, sharing the ring with him, and him teaching me some new things.
"He was telling me to use my long reach and keep the lead hand out to distract the opponent and keep them off you. A bit [like] what he does.
"When he's out of range, keep his lead hand out.
"He was just showing me different things and I learned from them. It's great to learn from a guy like Tyson Fury, he's a great man.
"He told me to throw in body shots. Go body, head, keep going up and down."
It is almost a year since it was first announced that a fight between Fury and Joshua would be taking place for all of the heavyweight world title belts.
And despite several false starts, it looked as if the two Brits would be facing each other in Saudi Arabia on August 14, with Fury reiterating the fight was on as recently as Sunday.
However, a US judge stated on Monday that Fury will need to fight Wilder for a third time before he can face anyone else, due to a contractual agreement between the pair.
This has led to a furious exchange between Joshua and Fury on social media , with both men angry that they will have to wait for their unification fight.
And McKenna has revealed he was helping Fury with his punch resistance during their time together in Las Vegas.
He added: "Straight after I'd sparred, I was on the bag and he called me. He wanted to do some work with me, some sparring.
"We just did some body sparring. He can take a good punch too.
"I didn't let them in fully, but I was putting them in good and hard and he would take them.
"He just told me to keep doing what I'm doing and I'm going to go the whole way."
