Tyson Fury confirms 60-40 Anthony Joshua offer and denies low-balling rival

Tyson Fury has offered Anthony Joshua 40% of a multi-million pound purse if he agrees to a blockbuster British heavyweight title fight later this year.

Never one to shy away from the spotlight, Fury called out AJ on social media on Monday after revealing that he won't wait until 2023 to fight Oleksandr Usyk. Joshua responded by saying he will be "ready in December," teasing the prospect of the all-British clash that boxing fans have been desperate to see for years.

Fury's promoter Frank Warren confirmed on Tuesday morning that he would be sending an offer to Joshua's camp for consideration, which would see the fight take place in the UK in November. And now Fury has outlined more than generous terms to AJ in another video on Twitter.

"I'm being bombarded with messages about how much I'm going to pay AJ," Fury said. "Everyone is saying 80/20, 70/30, 75/25… the actual answer is I've offered him 60/40.

"Forty per cent of this amazing fight because I want this fight to happen. He doesn't have have any excuses now not to take it. He can't say I've lowballed him by offering him 20 per cent or 30 per cent. I've offered him 40 per cent, take it or leave it. Let us know."

Fury and Joshua had been scheduled to meet last summer for an undefeated title fight, but a judge ruled that Fury had to take on Deontay Wilder for a third time. That purse would have been worth up to £100million each.

Since then, Joshua has relinquished his belts to Usyk, losing twice to the Ukrainian, while Fury has retained his world title against Wilder and Dillian Whyte.

Nevertheless, interest in a battle of Britain between Joshua and Usyk is still extremely high, with both fighters likely to earn significant sums from a potential bout. Warren spoke to talkSPORT on Tuesday and insisted their offer to Joshua would be a fair one.

"We’re sending a written offer across today to them," Warren said. "My son George spoke with Eddie Hearn yesterday. "It’s us who have made the approach to give AJ a great opportunity to get himself back into the top level against the world champion Tyson.

"He’s willing to make that voluntary defence, so we’ll send the offer across today and then they’ll have to look at it and decide whether they wanna grab this with both hands.

"We’re talking about being very, very fair. Tyson is being extremely fair and if and when these come out, if they want to publicise them, you’ll all be shocked. It’s perfect timing I think for AJ to accept it."

British boxing fans will be hoping that the two sides can finally get a deal over the line for a fight that has been in the making for a number of years.
