Tyson Fury breaks silence on Wilder postponement as Gypsy King plans UK return
Tyson Fury has announced to his fans that he will knock Deontay Wilder “spark out” when they meet in their rescheduled trilogy bout set for October 9.
Fury and Wilder were set to face off in a highly anticipated trilogy bout later this month, set for the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The contest was set to take place almost a year-and-a-half on from Fury’s stunning seventh-round knockout of Wilder in their previous fight, and the Gypsy King was set to enter the trilogy clash as a heavy favourite.
However, last week ESPN reported that multiple people in Fury’s camp had tested positive for COVID-19, including the current WBC heavyweight champion himself, which forced the Brit to withdraw from the bout.
While it was suggested by Eddie Hearn that Dillian Whyte could step in as a replacement for the Gypsy King, the trilogy clash has now been rescheduled for October 9 with both heavyweight juggernauts set to return to training camp.
In a recent press release, Fury, and his co-promoter Frank Warren, announced the new date for the fight and claimed the Gypsy King would “deliver a spectacular performance.”
“I wanted nothing more than to smash the ‘Big Dosser’ on July 24," Fury claimed.
"But I guess the beating will have to wait – make no mistake, I will be back and better than ever. We will fight on October 9, and I will knock him spark out!”

“I'm glad that we could all agree a new date quickly for Tyson to defend his title,” Warren added.
“Tyson is a fighting man and I know how frustrated he is that he can't compete this month. It's such a shame to lose a fight of this magnitude to COVID.
"That said, the extra time he gets to prepare is just going to ensure he's bigger and better than ever before – I've never been more certain that Tyson is going to deliver a spectacular performance and remain the No.1 heavyweight on the planet!"
Since the fight was initially postponed, Fury has tested negative for COVID-19 and is set to return to the UK later this month, before resuming his training camp in America later this year.
By the time he returns to the boxing ring, it will have been nearly 20 months since Fury and Wilder’s last fight.
While ring rust didn’t seem to play a part when the Gypsy King met the Bronze Bomber in their first clash, it will be intriguing to see if the delay between fights plays a part in either man’s performance.
