British boxing fans have been given renewed hope that the Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk clash could yet take place at Wembley with a deal yet to be agreed for a mega money bout in Saudi.

Ever since Fury easily dispatched Derek Chisora in December, both fighters have been adamant they want to unify the division, with a provisional date of April 29 seemingly agreed. Given the cash on offer, initially it appeared that both men would be heading to the Middle East, where Usyk beat Anthony Joshua in their title rematch last August.

However, the clock appears to be ticking with the venue yet to be finalised and London has emerged as a realistic possibility to host what would be a blockbuster event.

According to a report by ESPN, both camps are currently at odds over the financial arrangements. When asked how close a deal was, boxing correspondent Mike Coppinger candidly replied: "Not all that close unfortunately."

He continued: "There's been a hold up. I'm told the fight is highly unlikely……and probably not going to Saudi Arabia anymore, which really hurts the efforts because of all the money they were offering to secure this. Now I believe they are looking to have the fight in England."

However, Coppinger warned such plans would have to overcome one major stumbling block: "The problem is going to be getting enough money to satisfy both Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. I was told they are still targeting April 29, but a long way to go it appears. They need to get a deal done first."

Whilst the news may be viewed as positive by those hoping to attend in London, the latest developments will also raise cynicism levels with fans already denied one super fight involving Fury. Late last year, despite both boxers insisting they wanted a clash, negotiations for a title fight between Fury and Joshua fell through with both sides left blaming the other.

Last month, Fury's co-promoter Bob Arum implied Saudi was the front runner given the deal on offer: "Both fighters have agreed to do the fight, the question is the site and we're talking to the Middle East because allegedly they're going to come up with the biggest purse ever in boxing history," he told Sky Sports.

"And if they do, that's where the fight is going to go because money is money. If they don't, both fighters will agree to do the fight this spring at Wembley… but the fight will happen in my opinion, certainly within the first four months of the year."
