Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua "never had a contract" slams Deontay Wilder
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua "never had a contract" for their proposed undisputed showdown, claims Deontay Wilder.
Wilder is gearing up for his trilogy bout with Fury in Las Vegas on Saturday night, which presents him with the chance to reclaim the WBC heavyweight title 20 months after it was ripped from his grasp by the Brit.
He was beaten comprehensively when they last met in February 2020, with now ex-trainer Mark Breland throwing in the towel during round seven of the one-sided contest.
A contractually-obliged third fight between the pair was initially due to take place later that year, only for a Wilder injury and the coronavirus pandemic to scupper those plans.
And when the trilogy appeared dead in the water, Fury turned his attention to a potential clash with fellow Brit Joshua, which would have crowned the first undisputed heavyweight king since 2000.
However, not long after promoter Eddie Hearn managed to secure a lucrative site deal in Saudi Arabia to stage the mega-fight, at the 11th hour a US arbitration ruled that Fury must instead meet Wilder for a third time.

Joshua's defeat against Oleksandr Usyk last weekend put a severe dent in whatever hopes remained of a dream match-up with Fury, but Wilder is adamant that it was "never going to happen" anyway.
“The Fury AJ talk, it was never going to happen. They never had a contract to begin with," the American said in an interview with BT Sport.
"You know it was all propaganda and it was nothing I was concerned about because I knew the truth.
"Certain fans and people just take the first thing they hear without doing research and they just go away with it."
He then added: "People want to be first nowadays instead of being correct. That was the situation and one thing for sure, when you put black ink to white paper it’s sealed you know, it’s called a contract.

“As long as I knew I had that contract and we were going to activate it, there weren't no concerns or worries about the talks.
"They just hyped people up for nothing.”
