Tommy Fury denies he’ll ditch family name if Jake Paul wins in front of Tyson
Boxing requires all kinds of sacrifice from its servants, but there's one thing Tommy Fury won't be giving up regardless of the outcome when he faces Jake Paul on February 26.
It was all the way back in October 2021 that world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury first said his younger half-brother would have to change his surname if he lost to 'The Problem Child'. Additional wagers have since been touted, including one from Tyson and Fury's father, John, suggesting he'd be forced to stay in Saudi Arabia unless he won.
Paul, 26, piled on with a wager that would have forced Fury to change his name to 'Tommy Fumbles' during the build-up to one of their two failed fight dates in the past. However, as the bout finally becomes a reality this month, 'TNT' suggested any name-switching stakes mentioned by his family were strictly to drum up interest.

“I think we all know Tyson by now – and my dad – we all know how to sell pay-per-views, we all know how to hype a fight," Fury told The Sun as he confirmed his brother will be in Saudi Arabia for the fight.
“I think that’s all that is really. My dad and Tyson both know what’s going to happen in this fight, Tyson’s been there ever since I started boxing, so has my dad."
Needless to say the pressure is on for the Mancunian to inflict the first defeat of Paul's 'professional' career. Fury (8-0) made his pro boxing bow a little more than one year before Paul (6-0) made his, not to mention the fact his opponent is yet to face an active professional boxer in the ring.

But while any gambit concerning a change of surname might have been smoke and mirrors, Fury is adamant about one particular promise in Riyadh. Defeat means this could be the last time we see TNT in a boxing capacity, having assured he fully intends to retire in the event he loses to YouTuber Paul.
“Yes, 100 per cent, yeah," the 23-year-old told talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein. "Definitely. If I can’t beat Jake Paul, I don’t belong in the ring.”
One could argue that's even the more meaningful bet given the Fury family's love of boxing. Tyson and Tommy's other brother, Roman, made his professional debut in October, while 28-year-old cousin Hughie (26-3) is a former British champion who has made a name for himself at heavyweight.
Considering his background lies in the combat community while Paul grew up filming himself and older brother Logan online, a bulk of the pressure lies with Fury to get the job done in emphatic fashion. But while his boxing career isn't guaranteed to survive beyond February 26, Tommy Fury's last name will not be up for grabs in the biggest matchup of his life so far.
