Michael Zerafa didn’t want to fight Tim Tszyu tonight but he just can’t stay away from the biggest star in Aussie boxing.

Tim Tszyu’s clash with Stevie Spark is set to bring the fireworks with both men predicting a fight being broadcast around the world won’t go the distance.

There is plenty at stake for Tszyu in the fight despite Spark coming in at late notice.

He’s currently 18-0 and firming as one of the main contenders for a shot at the unified world champion – be it Jermell Charlo or Brian Castano when the pair fight for all the belts on July 17.

It’s been put forward as the reason why Tszyu opted to fight Spark instead of postponing his originally-scheduled fight against Michael Zerafa. He wants to be available if a title shot opens up.

Charlo has already shut down Tszyu’s hopes, saying he’ll never fight him. But the Aussie is the number one challenger for Castano’s WBO super welterweight title as well as No. 3 in the IBF and No. 4 in the WBC rankings. He’s becoming an irresistible challenger.

The fight will be broadcast live into the US on ESPN+ as well as the UK and Russia.

“We did a broadcast deal with ESPN so this could be shown live in the US, so that everyone sees Tim before he’s just about to destroy whoever the champion is – Castano or Charlo,” Rose said.

Rose insisted the stakes were high despite Spark entering tonight a massive underdog.

“It’s not about odds,” he said. “If it was about odds, we wouldn’t have put the fight on. This is based on us giving someone with a knockout ratio of 90 per cent an opportunity to take away Tim’s dream of a world title, which could happen in the next three months. The world is watching.”

Zerafa attempts to gatecrash Tszyu fight

Zerafa has some form with his gatecrashing, confronting Tszyu in the middle of Bankwest Stadium after his knock out of Bowyn Morgan in December.

Zerafa walked up to Tszyu and gave him some choice words in a dispute caught on camera.

After Zerafa called Tszyu out, the super welterweight star shot back with a cold shoulder dismissal of his 28-year-old rival.

“Mate, I’ve got a world title to win,” Tszyu said before beginning to walk away.

“Step up,” he barked before Tszyu was no longer within ear shot.
