SugarHill Steward responds after John Fury told Tyson Fury to sack his trainer
SugarHill Steward has dismissed John Fury’s suggestion that Tyson Fury should sack him for his ‘disloyal’ comments.
In an exclusive interview with Metro.co.uk in March, John Fury was livid with Steward for distancing himself from suggestions that he was in Morecambe to train Tyson Fury ahead of a proposed fight with Oleksandr Usyk on April 29, which later collapsed after talks fell through.
Steward insisted that he was only preparing Lawrence Okolie for his fight in Manchester that week and claimed that he had not worked with Tyson Fury for his unification bout against Usyk.
John Fury called Steward ‘Judas’ over his comments and said he felt the American trainer’s interview was a ‘sacking offence’.
When asked about John Fury’s strong comments, Steward told Boxing News: ‘I don’t know anything about that.’
Asked if he has spoken to John Fury, Steward replied: ‘No, I’ll speak to John when I see him but I haven’t spoke to him or heard anything about that until now.
‘So I guess for me to comment.. as you know I don’t listen to everything that’s written and said.
‘I believe if it was a problem then he would talk to me because we have each other’s phone numbers.
‘I’ll just leave it at that, I don’t know what else to say because the more you start talking the more it’s back and forth, ‘he said, she said’.
‘I have his number and he has my number so if something was to be said to each other me and him both know how to pick up the phone and talk to each other.’
