Six potential opponents for Jake Paul as YouTuber confirms next fight date
Jake Paul announced his return to boxing on Sunday after revealing to fans on social media that he has a fight scheduled for August 13.
The 25-year-old posted a short clip featuring the date of the fight and a ring announcer's voice, along with the caption, "I'm back. August 13th," though stopped short of confirming who he'll actually be fighting.
Together with his brother Logan, Jake – who has won all five of his professional bouts – has spearheaded boxing's divisive new celebrity-obsessed focus and direction. Seeing a former YouTube personality box a former MMA star might not be everyone's cup of tea, but as long as his fights keep bringing in the numbers, Paul isn't going anywhere. With that being said, his next opponent could literally be anyone, and Daily Star Sport has picked out six of the best.
Tommy Fury
It wouldn't make massive headlines, but given that Paul and Tommy Fury agreed to fight each other a few months ago, would anyone be all that surprised?
The Love Island star was forced to pull out of their bout back in December after picking up a rib injury during training, but has been angling for the match to be rescheduled ever since. He even called Paul out after beating Daniel Bocianski on the undercard of his brother Tyson's world title fight against Dillian Whyte last weekend.
Following Fury's injury, Paul claimed that a fight between the pair "will never happen again", but then again a lot of boxing is all talk, isn't it?
Out of these six potential opponents, who would you most like to see Jake Paul fight? Let us know in the comments section below
Conor McGregor
OK, this one might seem a little farfetched given Conor McGregor's profile and ongoing UFC career, but the two have been sparring on social media for months, and just went to head-to-head having backed opposing horses in the Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano fight at Maddison Square Garden on Saturday.
McGregor branded Paul a "jackass in pink Jimmy Saville glasses" on Twitter … so, there's that too.
Having broken his leg against Dustin Poirier just under a year ago, McGregor's focus will almost certainly be on his rehabilitation, but if the Irishman's bout against Floyd Mayweather in 2017 tells us anything it's that he's prepared to put his career on hold for a big pay day.
KSI
How about a little fraternal revenge? Fellow YouTuber-turned boxer KSI beat Logan Paul via split decision back in 2019, and perhaps it's high time he gave his little brother a go!
The London-born social media star hasn't fought since then, but has gone on to launch his own boxing promotional company – so he's very much still in the bizz.
Given that neither of them are professional athletes by trade it wouldn't exactly be a boxing masterclass, but if there's a better promotional angle than avenging a family member I haven't heard it!
Mike Tyson
It's been spoken about! 'Iron' Mike Tyson has been semi-regular contact with Paul in recent months, and we know a fight between the pair was at least discussed.
While both men poured cold water on the rumours not that long ago, this one wouldn't exactly be coming out of the blue.
Tyson returned to the ring for an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr just over a year ago, getting himself properly back into shape in the process. He may be 55-years-old, but I bet the 'Baddest Man on the Planet' can still come kick some serious ass.
Michael Bisping
Retired UFC legend Michael Bisping told Jake Paul to name a location for a potential fight between the pair not two weeks ago, with suggestions that they could even square off on an Indian reservation.
Though once Paul hit back saying he'd welcome the fight, Bisping hit the brakes. "I don’t want to fight Jake Paul. I don’t. But guess what? I know a few people. I haven’t been around this fight game this long to not have contacts," he said during a recent episode of his 'Believe You Me' podcast.
The problem for Bisping is his eyesight, having suffered an injury in the final fight of his career against Kelvin Gastelum, but if he's granted a license to compete, then Bisping v Paul could be on!
Logan Paul
Why not? We've seen Venus Williams take on Serena, Michael Schumacher race against Ralf, hell we've even seen Gary and Phil Neville going toe-to-toe, but wouldn't it be something to these two brothers walloping each other in the face in front of 50,000 people?
It's a crime that Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko spent so many years at the summit of heavyweight boxing without facing one another, and perhaps this is the next best thing, for now anyway.
Both men have proven that they can go in the ring, and both have big enough egos that they might actually be prepared to batter the other to stand tallest in the limelight. As I said, why not?
