Paddy Pimblett says Paul will receive a rude awakening against Silva

Paddy Pimblett says YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul will receive a rude awakening against ‘GOAT’ Anderson Silva and backs The Spider to end the contest inside ‘three rounds’

  • Anderson Silva was UFC middleweight champion between 2006 and 2013
  • The Brazilian has gone into boxing after his UFC contract expired in 2020
  •  He is now looking to beat YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on 29 October
  • UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett has backed Silva to beat Paul in three rounds

UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett says Jake Paul could be in for ‘a rude awakening’ on October 29 as he believes Anderson Silva is one of the best ‘strikers’ in MMA history.

Pimblett says Paul will struggle to last three rounds with Silva at the Gila River Arena in Glendale last this month.

Pimblett says Paul – who is currently 5-0 as a professional boxer – is going to realise ‘what it’s like to fight an actual striker’.

Silva (pictured fighting Chael Sonnen) is considered an MMA legend having held the UFC middleweight champion title for more than 2,457 days between 2006 and 2013

While on the Chattin Pony Podcast, Pimblett discussed the upcoming fight with former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz.

Ortiz – who was knocked out by Silva last September – said: ‘[Silva] is one of the best strikers in MMA history. He’s coming up on the fight now against Jake Paul.

‘I don’t think Jake Paul’s gonna make it out of three rounds. That’s my opinion. But I think it’s gonna be a great fight. I know Jake Paul puts in great work.’

Pimblett agreed with Ortiz and said the fight would be a rude awakening for Paul. He said: ‘As you say, he’s [Silva] one of the GOATs, definitely.

Paul was searching for his next opponent after back-to-back victories over Tyron Woodley

‘I’m with you on the prediction as well. I can’t see Jake Paul getting out of three. There’s no chance.

Pimblett went on to add: ‘He’s [Paul] gonna realise what it’s like fighting an actual striker, and he’s gonna get bingo’d.’

Silva, 47, is considered an MMA legend having held the UFC middleweight champion title for more than 2,457 days between 2006 and 2013, and many regard him as the greatest striker to perform in the UFC.

He was removed from the roster when his contract expired in 2020 but the 47-year-old has since gone on to box successfully, and is now looking to beat YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul in the ring on 29 October.

However, Silva is more than two decades older than Paul – who has knocked out AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson and Ben Askren since making his professional debut in 2020.

Nevertheless, Silva did manage to outpoint former middleweight world titleholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and knocked out Tito Ortiz during his career.
