Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has revealed that the legendary boxer is keen to exact revenge over long-standing nemesis Floyd Mayweather.

Pacquiao, now aged 42, will step back into the ring to face Yordenis Ugas with the WBA ‘super’ welterweight title on the line this weekend.

However, his sights are also firmly fixed on facing Mayweather once again in the future, despite the unbeaten all-time great having stepped away from the sport.

Manny Pacquiao’s (R) trainer Freddie Roach confirmed he is keen to face Floyd Mayweather (L)

‘We would like to fight Mayweather one more time,’ Roach told Sky Sports.

‘But exhibitions? No. Manny is not into that. Manny has boxing fans. That’s what we’re after.’

It was Mayweather who memorably bettered Pacquiao in their mouth-watering showdown in 2015, and he has only made a comeback since in rare exhibition bouts.

Pacquiao, now 42 and balancing his political career with boxing, is keen to exact his revenge

That has left Pacquiao, who remains juggling his stardom in boxing with a flourishing political career, to continue as a serious fighter and face some of the biggest names.

While doing so, it appears that Mayweather has remained firmly in the back of his mind, and he was asked about a rematch earlier this month.

‘I’m still active in boxing,’ Pacquiao told TMZ Sports. ‘He’s retired already, so I don’t know.’

Quizzed further on the fight, Pacquiao simply replied: ‘Yes.’

Roach said Pacquiao is open to ‘one more’ fight with Mayweather off the back of his 2015 loss

Pacquiao’s two-year absence from boxing will be brought to an end when he faces off against Ugas at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

WBA welterweight title holder Ugas stepped in on short notice to replace Errol Spence Jr, who was forced to pull out with a torn retina.

And in the build-up to the fight, Pacquiao has urged his followers to watch, as it may be the last time he sets foot inside the ring.

‘I’m doing my best in training, pushing my body hard, so that I’m ready to fight for the title on Saturday,’ Pacquiao told ES News, via South China Morning Post.

‘Never underestimate your opponent because he can punch also. Always keep in 100 per cent condition mentally, physically and spiritually.

He went on to add: ‘I hope you’re going to watch this fight, don’t miss it.

‘It’s going to be a good fight – it might be my last fight, or more, we don’t know. God knows. Thank you so much for all your support.’
