Oscar De La Hoya makes incredible offer to Floyd Mayweather for exhibition clash
Oscar De La Hoya has offered Floyd Mayweather $100 million to face him in an exhibition clash.
The American was set to make his ring return against Vitor Belfort as part of Triller's Fight Club series but was replaced by Evander Holyfield.
He was unable to compete after being hospitalised with coronavirus but has now returned to full health.
And he has now made an extraordinary offer to Mayweather of $100 million for the pair to meet in the ring in an exhibition.
“Guess what. You know who I’m going to call out for my next fight? Floyd Mayweather. I’ll offer Floyd Mayweather $100 million,” De La Hoya told TMZ Sports.
I am still planning to fight before the end of the year, I would have knocked out Vitor Belfort in thirty seconds, but now Mayweather $100 million let’s go!”
De La Hoya was forced to withdraw from the clash with Belfort, who dismissed his late-replacement Holyfield in the first round.
But he is continuing his plans to make a full boxing comeback despite offering fans an insight into his "five days of hell" after testing positive for Covid-19.
But according to Triller president Ryan Kavanaugh, De La Hoya is out to try and avenge Holyfield's defeat against Belfort despite calling out Mayweather.
“What I do think – and this is something we didn’t really think about – is that the Oscar De La Hoya-Vitor fight on Thanksgiving (2021), if we can make this happen, has just become much more interesting," Kavanaugh told the MMA Hour.
Will Floyd Mayweather face Oscar De La Hoya? Let us know in the comments section below.
"Because, for all those people who seem to be upset at Vitor for what just happened with Holyfield, you’ve just made this a much more personal fight, if you will.
"And Oscar becomes somewhat of, not just his own ‘Golden Boy’, but coming in for revenge for Evander Holyfield. And so, we are in talks with Oscar about having him fight Vitor on Thanksgiving weekend, Saturday, and calling it ‘The Revenge’.”
De La Hoya has now given a positive update on his future after the virus, and is ready to continue to match his best ever shape and re-enter the ring.
And the former six-weight world champion plans on escalating his rivalry with former client Canelo Alvarez, and doubled down on claims he could beat the Mexican.
“I mean look, in the scope of things it’s like ‘okay, maybe it can’ but it’s like ‘why not?’ He’s the best out there, I’ve fought the best," De La Hoya told Fight Hub TV.
"I’ve actually fought way better than that so it’s like ‘yeah, he’s the best now, today, but yesterday the best was a lot better,’ and I’ve fought everybody.
"So the fact that something can lead up to that, with me and Canelo, why not? And if people want to see me knocked out then tune in. If you think I can beat him, tune in.
"I’ve never been in a boring fight, I never dodged anybody, I've never been in there and only thrown three punches a round.
"If you want to see boring or you want to see exciting, you choose.”
