Oleksandr Usyk will be 'studying' Fury's clash against Whyte

Oleksandr Usyk will be ‘studying’ Tyson Fury’s UK homecoming against Dillian Whyte as the Ukrainian’s team confirm they will attend the Wembley clash ahead of a potential undisputed fight

  • British rivals Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte finally go head-to-head on April 23
  • Oleksandr Usyk’s team have revealed they will watch the clash at Wembley
  • Usyk is set to defend his titles against Anthony Joshua in their summer rematch
  • But the Ukrainian will study Fury’s bout with an undisputed fight on the cards

Oleksandr Usyk has hinted an undisputed fight with Tyson Fury could be on the cards after his promoter revealed they will be ‘studying’ the Gypsy King’s fight with Dillian Whyte.

The Ukrainian is set to defend his WBA, WBO and IBF belts against Anthony Joshua in summer after he downed the Brit and, against the odds, stripped away his titles in stunning fashion in London last September.

But it appears the 35-year-old won’t be entirely focused on his own bout as he will reportedly be paying close attention to Fury’s UK homecoming.

Whyte finally gets his shot at a world title and a long-awaited clash with Fury as the two meet in a British blockbuster at Wembley on Saturday.

Usyk’s team has confirmed they will be in the capital at the weekend to watch Fury in action.

‘Definitely yes [we will be watching the fight],’ Alexander Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter, told Sky Sports.

‘Egis Klimas [Usyk’s manager] and myself plan to attend the event and watch it from ringside.

‘At Usyk’s training camp, he will watch and study the fight on TV.’

Fury had previously threatened to retire after his world heavyweight title defence against Whyte but backtracked on his claims, leaving the door open to an undisputed fight in the future.

No doubt, if he fends off Whyte’s long-awaited challenge for his WBC and lineal world titles, he could turn to an even more momentous and enriching super-duper fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship against the winner of this summer’s battle for the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts between Joshua and Usyk.

‘To be honest with you I am only thinking about Dillian Whyte, I am not thinking about retirement,’ he said.

‘That will come after the fight, we will think about what will happen and what the future will hold for me.

‘At the minute, I have a massive task in Dillian. A lot of people are underestimating Dillian Whyte but not me. I am giving him the respect he deserves throughout the training camp.

‘I am not underestimating this guy, I give him the respect like I did for Deontay Wilder and everyone else.’

Usyk’s own bout with Joshua could be pushed back according to reports, after the scheduling took a hit.

Usyk bravely enlisted with the military in his homeland in late February to help them hold off the Russian forces after they launched their bloody invasion, and the situation in eastern Europe saw his fight against Joshua placed in jeopardy.

The duo were set to lock horns in the spring in a rematch of their showdown from last September.

Last month, Usyk was given clearance to leave Ukraine for his scrap with Joshua but has only recently confirmed that he has been able to start his training camp for the fight.
