Mike Tyson opens up to Frank Bruno on attending 10 mental health facilities
Mike Tyson has opened up to former opponent Frank Bruno on attending 10 mental health facilities.
The pair faced off twice during their careers, the first being a 1989 clash where the Brit got a hit on his opponent early on before Iron Mike knocked him down in the fifth round.
While their second match seven years later proved to be quicker, with the youngest-ever heavyweight champion denying Bruno a title chance on both occasions.
But both fighters have also had battles out of the ring.
Bruno was twice sectioned under the Mental Health Act in 2003 and 2012 amid his battle with bipolar disorder, while Tyson has faced several run-ins with the law and overcome a drug addiction.
And Iron Mike, 54, has revealed how much work it took him to get out of his struggles.
Speaking inSky Sports documentary “Bruno v Tyson”, the legendary boxer said: “Bruno went to one mental health facility.
“I’ve been to 10 of them. This is what we have to go through.
“This is our journey that we have to deal with.”
Bruno also expressed his sadness at seeing the struggles Tyson was facing outside the ring.
He said to The Sun : “It was sad watching what happened to Mike after he retired — but I had my own situation going on for a lot of that time too.
“Back then, people with mental health problems did not really come forward to talk about it.
“So it was very sad with Mike. Because underneath the bad-boy image, the massive puncher, he is not a nasty guy — he is a very good and humble person.

“It’s just a shame when you get in the ring with him that he turns into an animal!
“If you think I have been through a hard time, you need to check out Mike and see what he has been through. But now he is happy.
“I don’t feel any malice towards Mike, I feel far more like a brother to him.”
It comes as the pair are equals once again when it comes to net worth, with Tyson’s cannabis farm and boxing comeback giving him a huge cash injection.
