Michael Bisping makes "he’ll box his head off" prediction for Paul vs Woodley
This weekend, Jake Paul meets former UFC welterweight king Tyron Woodley in his fourth professional boxing match.
The bout is scheduled for eight rounds at cruiserweight and will take place at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio.
Paul is currently 3-0 as a professional boxer, most recently knocking out UFC veteran Ben Askren in one round, and while he will enter the upcoming fight as favourite, Woodley is, without doubt, his toughest opponent to date.
Throughout the build-up to the contest, numerous fans and fighters have offered their predictions for the contest.
Some have claimed Woodley’s superior combat sports acumen will shine through and that, of course, he will knockout the YouTuber.
Others have argued that Paul is a genuinely talented boxer, more than capable of putting away an over-the-hill, 39-year-old MMA fighter.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Star, former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping revealed that while he is “rooting for Tyron”, there is a solid chance Paul will “box his head off.”
“I honestly have no idea,” Bisping claimed.
“I could see Jake Paul going out there and boxing his head off, to be quite frank. He’s taller, he’s longer, he’s been boxing for longer.
“Tyron’s got a limited skill set now, you know. He’s only got hands. In the past he would use his kicks, his wrestling and he was the complete threat.
“You know, the threat of his takedowns allowed him to use his right hand and his power shots. Tyron was never the highest volume guy.”
Do you think Jake Paul will defeat Tyron Woodley when they meet in the boxing ring? Let us know in the comments section below.
Since capturing the UFC welterweight title against Robbie Lawler in 2016, Woodley gained an unfortunate reputation as one of the UFC’s most boring fighters.
His extraordinarily dull contests against Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia remain among the lowest volume bouts in UFC title fight history.
While the Chosen One blasted through England’s Darren Till in impressive fashion in his fourth title defense, he would lose the belt in his next fight against Kamaru Usman.
Since, Woodley’s career has declined in spectacular style.
In four final bouts with the UFC, against Usman, Gilbert Burns, Colby Covington, and Vicente Luque, Woodley lost 16 consecutive rounds. Shortly after his loss to Luque, he was released from the promotion.
Despite his decline, Bisping is still pulling for Woodley. However, the Count conceded that with all the pressure on his shoulders, Woodley could “freeze up and take his time.”
“Obviously, I’m rooting for Tyron,” Bisping claimed.
“I’ve got nothing against Jake Paul, I wish him the best, but I know Tyron and I’ve got a personal relationship with the guy. Of course, I’m going to wish him the best.
“I’m going to make a pick that Tyron Woodley gets it done. But I will say, I’m picking with my heart. I don’t know, I don’t know what Tyron’s gonna show up and I don’t know what Jake Paul’s gonna show up.
“Tyron has the ability, but he’s just got so much pressure on him. That pressure could cause him to freeze up a little bit and take his time, waiting for the perfect opportunity. If he does that, Jake Paul will take over.
“But my official pick is Tyron Woodley.”
