Meet Mikaela Mayer – the gorgeous boxing world champion fighting in London

Mikaela Mayer might not be a name familiar to too many people outside of boxing, but that could be about to change on Saturday night.

Mayer is looking to extend her impressive unbeaten record when she takes on fierce rival Alycia Baumgardner in the co-main event alongside Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall at the O2 Arena this evening.

The 32-year-old from Los Angeles has caught the eye of late, and not just for her boxing abilities. She stole the show in red during an appearance on ITV London earlier this week, before wearing red again to flaunt her belts at a media day on Thursday.

With an Instagram following of over 167,000, she has plenty of loyal supporter who'll be cheering her on against Baumgardner, both from ringside and around the world.

The pair needed to split apart as they resumed their heated rivalry ahead of their unification title bout, with Meyer is looking to add the WBC and IBO female super featherweight titles to her WBO, IBF and The Ring belts.

They traded blows during the recording of their Face-Off after Baumgardner's suggestion that her boxing ascent did not benefit from the same "resources" that Mayer had utilised.

Mayer said she was sick of that "narrative" and accused her opponent, nicknamed 'The Bomb,' of hating her "a lot." She told Sky Sports: "That's what it's always been about to me, Baumgardner seems to have taken it all a lot more personally.

"She seems very emotional, she seems to hate me a lot, probably because she's been wanting to fight me for a long time because I've always been the No 1 girl of this division in the amateurs and now in the pros.

"But for me it's all about going undisputed like I plan to, when I set out to do something I do it and I have been going after every single champion.

"If you don't like me as a fighter that's fine but you can't say I haven't tried to make the biggest fights because that's what I've done and this is just one step towards getting that undisputed title," she said.

Meyer acknowledged her opponent's brutal punching power but suggested she is one-dimensional when it comes to her overall fight game.

"I obviously don't feel like taking the brunt of her power in every shot, but I trained as if I'm going against a very very strong opponent, I'd be stupid not to," Mayer continued.

"We'll see, we'll know first round. We have a game plan and we know how to handle it and I still feel very confident regardless of her power or not because I feel like I'm the more skilled fighter and I can fight in all areas of the ring.

"Once that power doesn't work for her and she can't hurt me the way she thinks she can, she's not going to have a Plan B. I'm ready to go."
