Logan Paul insists fans are still interested in Floyd Mayweather fight

Logan Paul insists fans are still interested in Floyd Mayweather fight despite the ‘super exhibition’ contest being pushed back from its initial February date due to ‘complications’

  • YouTube boxer Logan Paul was set to take on Floyd Mayweather on February 20
  • But the ‘super exhibition’ contest has now been pushed back from its initial date
  • Paul claims fans are still interested in the fight despite the disappointing delay

Logan Paul slammed claims that his fight against Floyd Mayweather was pushed back from its initial February date due to a lack of interest.

The YouTube boxer was set to take on the undefeated Mayweather in a ‘super exhibition fight’ next month but Paul has now confirmed the fight will happen at a later date following intense rumours on social media last week.

Paul claimed that the leak came from a strength and conditioning coach wanting to be part of the fight, but the 25-year-old insisted that this will be one of the most talked about fights in years.

The YouTuber told The Night Shift Gaming channel: ‘I’ve been a little upset with the narrative I’m seeing online, a little f****** upset, so I’ll clear this up.

‘It’s just stupid. A guy who we had come to test to be a strength and conditioning coach leaked information about the fight.

‘As soon as this got out, he said that the fight was being pushed [back], I said, “F*** we’ve had a leak from inside our camp, no-one else was supposed to know that.”

‘Then the narrative changed to, “Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul fight postponed due to lack of interest.”

It will be the first time the undefeated Mayweather has stepped into the ring in over two years

‘Lack of interest? What the f***? There’s not be a fight that’s made this much noise the whole year.’

American boxing legend Mayweather, who has a 50-0 undefeated record, has not fought in over two years and just once since he knocked out Conor McGregor in 2017 in another exhibition bout.

Paul, meanwhile, fought fellow YouTuber KSI twice in the past three years, the first resulting in a draw before the Briton claimed a rematch victory back in 2019.

Paul’s younger brother Jake, who is also a YouTuber, has been making in-roads into the world of professional boxing and beat former basketball player Nate Robinson in explosive fashion last month.

Jake even claimed recently that he is the ‘next Floyd Mayweather’ with regards to entertainment after just one white-collar fight and two professional bouts.

Logan, meanwhile, claimed the fight will still be going ahead but the high-profile nature of the fight means it will take longer to plan.

He added: ‘We’re figuring it (the rearranged date) out now. There was some complications with – actually, I don’t know how much I can say.

Paul says fans are still interested in the bout, branding the fight as one of the biggest in 2021

‘I’ll say this – the complications are when you are dealing with someone like Floyd Mayweather who is the most desired, highest paid fighter on the planet and he operates at a certain calibre, and the people around him want to make sure their talent, their fighter is performing at a certain level, there are a lot hoops to jump through.

‘There a lot of people involved and you’ve only got one shot at it so you need to get it absolutely 1,000 per cent right.

‘We’re just making sure we’re doing that. But yeah, I’m still going to beat the s*** out of Floyd Mayweather. Or, maybe he’s going to beat the s*** out of me, who knows? The point is it’s still going to happen.’
