Liam Smith hits out at Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn after ‘money is poor’ remark
Liam Smith hit back at Eddie Hearn by labelling Conor Benn as a “low risk and high reward” bout for Chris Eubank Jr.
Rumours linking Eubank and Benn with a ludicrous bout in Abu Dhabi were quashed, for now, after the Liverpudlian’s rematch against the Brighton fighter were recently announced. Eubank triggered the rematch clause against the former super-welterweight world champion a few days after Smith emphatically stopped him in the fourth round at the Manchester Arena.
However, before their rematch – which will take place on June 17 – was announced, Hearn told IFLTV “Look, Eubank wants to fight Conor Benn. The money for Liam Smith is poor. But the money for Conor Benn is huge.” But while Smith conceded money to see Benn vs Eubank may be more, he considers himself a more fiercer challenge for the 33-year-old.

“I’m not sure what Eddie means by that,” Smith said exclusively to Daily Star Sport. “I think he means that Conor Benn is low risk and high reward for Chris Eubank Jr.
“I don’t know what the public make of it. Conor Benn might not agree with it. But in my opinion, Conor Benn is an easier fight for more money.

“I said that before I fought Chris and I’ll stand by that. I think my result with Chris proved that point too. I don’t know if Eddie’s on about my money, I don’t know.” As well as hitting out at Hearn and Benn, Smith also made time to have another dig at his nemesis Eubank.
When asked if he would have looked to face Eubank a second time, four months after so ruthlessly dispatching him the first time round. “Again, there’s many ways for me to look at it. I’m tied into this,” Smith admitted, citing the rematch clause Eubank enacted.
“If I wasn’t tied into it, I wouldn’t be doing it. Let’s have it right, who knocks Chris Eubank Jr out and fights him again for the same money?
“Hypothetically, no one, but I am doing it. If it wasn’t for the rematch clause, I wouldn’t be doing it.”
Smith Eubank II takes place at AO Arena Manchester on June 17th. Tickets are on sale now at Boxxer.com
