Kell Brook reveals threat behind glove change controversy ahead of Amir Khan win

Kell Brook says he was threatened with not being paid for his fight with Amir Khan unless he agreed to changing his gloves just moments before the first bell.

There was a delay to the start of the bout as discussions went on in Brook’s dressing room over his gloves, although the specific problem was not made clear.

The Special One made his walk to the ring and then changed his gloves once he had stepped through the ropes in extremely unusual scenes,

The problems with the gloves did not hinder the Yorkshireman as he went on to dominate Khan before the referee stepped in to stop the fight in the sixth, but revealed what had gone on before the bout, not just with the gloves, but other issues.

‘I’ve done everything they’ve asked of me. I even had to put different gloves on in the ring! That doesn’t happen,’ Brook told Sky Sports.

‘He said he wasn’t happy with me gloves. It took till the final moment in the ring and they said, “Look, we’re not going to pay you unless you put these gloves on.” So I needed to put them gloves on.

‘The Weight issue…we’re not getting into it. I’ve done all the things they wanted me to do and I’ve still took him apart.

‘They’ve tried to do it all week, tried to get in my head, tried to push and poke at me but I stayed calm in there. Listened to me corner and I’m back! Took care of business like I said I’m going to do.

‘I even had someone knocking on my hotel door at 3 in the morning to disrupt my sleep!’

Brook had Khan rocked in the very first round and while the Olympic medallist bravely fought on till the sixth, it was near total dominance from the Yorkshireman.

The superior power of Brook was clear to see, and while Khan’s speed was also on display, it didn’t come close to levelling the playing field.

Brook came close to ending the fight more than once before hurting Khan right at the start of the sixth and pouring on the punishment before the referee stepped in with Khan still on his feet, but clearly a beaten man.
