Katie Taylor's rematch with Amanda Serrano is POSTPONED
Katie Taylor’s rematch with Amanda Serrano is POSTPONED as Puerto Rican star pulls out of their May bout through injury… with the undisputed lightweight champion’s Irish homecoming delayed until later this year
- Taylor and Serrano were set to battle it out for a second time in Dublin on May 20
- But their rematch has now been put on hold after Serrano picked up an injury
- Taylor came out on top in their epic first meeting, prevailing via split decision
Katie Taylor’s rematch with Amanda Serrano in May has been called off because of an injury to the Puerto Rican.
The eagerly-anticipated clash had been due to take place in Dublin on May 20 having been confirmed earlier this month after Serrano defeated Erika Cruz to become undisputed featherweight world champion.
A statement from Taylor’s promoters Matchroom read: ‘Due to an injury sustained by Amanda Serrano, Matchroom Boxing and Most Valuable Promotions regret to announce that the Taylor-Serrano II bout on May 20 in Dublin will not go ahead as planned.
‘The teams are in discussions about finding a revised date for the bout. Further details will follow in due course.’
Taylor beat Serrano via split decision in the first women’s contest to top the bill at Madison Square Garden last April, which proved an enthralling contest from start to finish, and retained her undisputed lightweight titles as a result.

The 36-year-old Irishwoman joined Serrano in the ring following her victory over Cruz to confirm the rematch, calling it ‘more than a dream come true’.
Doubt had surrounded the venue, though, with Dublin’s 3Arena expected to host the fight after negotiations between the Gaelic Athletic Association and Matchroom to stage it at Croke Park fell through over security costs.
Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently flew to Ireland to hold talks with Conor McGregor over staging his compatriot’s homecoming, with the UFC superstar offering to help bridge a reported £620,000 gap in funding.
Speaking on Betfred’s Lightweight Boxing Show, via The Sun, Hearn said: ‘I had a nice pint of Black Forged Irish Stout, which is better than Guinness, and it was just mad being around Conor. Imagine watching a Conor McGregor press conference and that’s basically what it was like at dinner.
‘He’s a character, he’s a great promoter and he genuinely loves Katie Taylor and wants to help. I’m sure he’ll be part of the show.’
Even with extra funding, Croke Park was still believed to be unavailable in May, meaning Taylor and Serrano were poised to lock horns at 3Arena.
Though with their highly-anticipated rematch now pushed back until later in the year it remains to be seen whether Hearn and Co look to secure a new date at the 82,300-seater stadium.
