John Fury slams David Haye for assuming Tyson would lose to Deontay Wilder

John Fury branded David Haye an “idiot” for doubting his son Tyson would beat Deontay Wilder.

Fury overcame a slow start to land a killer blow to the Bronze Bomber in the fight’s penultimate round.

The Gypsy King celebrated with fans in the Hakkasan nightclub after retaining his WBC heavyweight title in style.

The boxer’s father, who never doubted he would win, had some harsh words for Haye, who thought Wilder would spring a surprise at the T-Mobile Arena.

Speaking to BT before the weigh-in in Las Vegas, Haye had said: 'I think Wilder has been completely underestimated. I personally don't believe [Fury's] training has gone anywhere near as good as the second fight. He had no motivation for it.

"He's not the type of guy to go into a fight with someone he knows in his heart he can beat and train and push for it. He's not that guy. You've got someone in Fury who's ill-prepared and Wilder who has had surgery and is now bigger and stronger. I think we're going to get an upset."

In an interview with talkSPORT, John fumed: "I'm not even going to discuss that, that man's an idiot.

“I don't know why BT send him out there, he's just a hater.

“He's a hater, he's got nothing good to say, he's not a good pundit, he gets everything wrong and it's all about David Haye.

“I'm not knocking his achievements, he did a brilliant job as world champion, but he needs to grow up and get a personality. I've got no respect for that man at all, none.”

There have been reports that Fury is in line to defend his belts against Dillian Whyte, should he defeat his next opponent Otto Wallin at the end of the month.

However, John is keen for his son to fight Oleskandr Usyk – who defeated Anthony Joshua last month and will face the Brit in a rematch next year.

The Ukrainian is now the holder of the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO belts, and an undisputed unification fight with Fury would be a mouthwatering encounter.

“He's got to look for Usyk or nothing, in my idea," he added. 'It's Usyk next, or nothing. I wouldn't bother with the rest of them, they're not in Tyson's class.

“Would Dillian Whyte deal with Deontay Wilder? No. So why would they wanna put him in with my son and get him knocked out?

“Tyson can't get up for them kind of fights. For me, I've told him, Usyk or don't bother.”

In what was a thrilling back-and-forth trilogy fight, the 33-year-old recovered from being knocked down twice in the fourth round by Wilder to secure a monumental win.

Both men were taken off their feet with Wilder down in the third and 10th rounds and Fury down twice in one round for the first time in his career.

But it was the British fighter who recovered best from the setbacks to send the American crashing to the mat once and for all in the penultimate round, ensuring a conclusive end to their long-running feud.
