Jake Paul reignites war of words with Tommy Fury with ‘fake injury’ accusation

Jake Paul has reignited his war of words with Tommy Fury after accusing his rival of faking the injury that forced him out of the pair’s bout in Tampa last December.

Paul and Fury were finally set to meet in the ring at the end of last year after exchanging verbal blows over social media for months on end.

However, Fury was forced to pull out of the eagerly anticipated bout just two weeks before fight night after sustaining a rib injury in training.

Paul was then drafted to fight his last opponent Tyron Woodley late on, who he defeated for a second successive time thanks to a sixth-round knockout.

In the weeks after the fight the rivalry between the American and the Englishman seemingly lost traction, after a blockbuster year of bad mouthing each other.

Just under two months on though Paul has finally reignited the feud, accusing his original opponent of faking injury to get out of the fight.

In an interview with talkSPORT, he said: “I tried to fight a real boxer and he faked an injury, so that’s Tommy Fury.”

A confident Paul went on to add that he believes Fury was in fact ‘lucky’ to miss the fight.

He continued: “He comes from a legendary bloodline. It would have been worse for Tommy Fury.

One man who had previously made the claim to Paul is Fury’s promoter Eddie Hearn, and the American revealed he was able to use Hearn’s comments as inspiration whilst training,

Paul added: “I was ready to fight the pro boxer. I had a poster up in my gym of Eddie actually, it said ‘when are you going to fight a real boxer?’ and I looked at it every day whilst training…

“Look it's only been two years since my professional boxing debut, and I'm just going to continue to increase the level of my opposition and continue to prove people wrong.”

There is no doubt the American has taken plenty of flak since entering the boxing scene, following his YouTube vlogging background.

And whilst many boxing fans fail to take him seriously, Paul has high aspirations to prove them wrong and even become a world champion.

He said: “I have a long way to go and I think I can become a world champion because I spar against world champions and I have great coaches and an amazing team around me.

“I have a giant chip on my shoulder, a giant chip on both shoulders, so I want to prove everyone wrong and I’m going to just for fun.”
