Jake Paul jokes he was on shrooms against opponent who looked like an "alien"
Jake Paul has joked that he was on shrooms for his fight with Ben Askren in April and that the mixed martial artist looked like an "alien".
The controversial YouTuber turned boxer beat Askren with a first round knockout earlier this year before taking his professional record to 4-0 with a split decision victory over Tyron Woodley on Sunday.
Paul survived being rocked by a fierce left-hook from former UFC Welterweight champion Woodley in the fourth round of their bout in Cleveland, Ohio to claim victory.
The 24-year-old could come up against former Love Island contestant Tommy Fury next with the pair continuing their war of words after the fight.
Speaking on his brother Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast last week, Jake joked that "Logan would come up and be like 'Do shrooms it's just Ben Askren'" before his third professional fight.
He then joked with fellow hosts Mike Majlak and George Janko that he fought Askren on shrooms and that "He looked like a weird alien figure, I was like 'let's get out of here'. What are you doing on Earth?"
The former Disney Channel actor defeated Askren by TKO within two minutes at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, after knocking him down with an overhand right halfway through the opening round.
The legitimacy of the fight had been called into question with 36-year-old Askren having retired from the UFC and having undergone hip surgery in the months leading up to the fight.
Paul was explaining his decision to move his training from Miami to Puerto Rico for his bout with 39-year-old Woodley in an attempt to avoid distractions.
The decision paid off as Paul took his professional record to 4-0 with the split decision victory on Sunday night as he was taken past the second round for the first time in his career.
His next opponent is yet to be confirmed but many are calling for Paul and Fury to meet in a long awaited bout after going back and forth on social media in recent months.
Fury made his US debut on the undercard and called out Paul after a unanimous victory over Anthony Taylor, before the pair had an altercation backstage following Paul's win.
