WBO interim heavyweight champion Zhilei Zhang believes Tyson Fury is actively avoiding him.

The Chinese boxing hero made a devastating statement when he knocked out Joe Joyce in the third round with a terrifying right hook in September. His knockout of the year contending punch followed his first stoppage victory over ‘the Juggernaut’ all the way back in April.

Each time the Chinese giant stopped the Brit, he took the microphone and called out the Gypsy King, who recently struggled to a tight split-decision victory over Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia. After reviewing the WBC heavyweight champion’s tense contest with the former UFC heavyweight champion, Zhang took aim at Fury again.

“We witnessed the worst version of Tyson Fury ever,” Zhang said exclusively to Daily Star Sport via Best Boxing Betting Sites 2023. “No matter how you look at it, it’s an exhibition fight.

“To perform like that, it’s a shame to the sport of boxing. I don’t know if Fury is past his prime or not, but he did not train for the Ngannou fight and was not dedicated as a professional for it.

“When I called him out after knocking Joe Joyce out, he was in a conversation with Oleksandr Usyk to fight for two years. As soon as I called him out the fight got made.

“That to me means Fury and his team want to avoid me.” Fury and Usyk were set to fight during Riyadh season on December 23.

However, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren decided to move the fight away from that date so the Gypsy King can recover from his bruising encounter against Ngannou. He is now set to face the Ukrainian some time in February.

Zhang currently commands a record of 26 victories, 21 by knockout, one draw and one defeat, which was a contentious loss to Filip Hrgovic in the summer of 2022.
