Gennady Golovkin is set to re-ignite his bitter rivalry with Canelo Alvarez with the two men set to clash on Saturday night. It will be an epic trilogy contest to settle their feud following a draw in the first fight and a controversial Alvarez win.

Considered by many to be one of the best boxers in the world as well as perhaps the best overall middleweight, Golovkin has earned many achievements across his illustrious career. In 2019, the 40-year-old won both the IBF and IBO middleweight itles having previously held the WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO titles between 2014 and 2018.

Over the course of his career, he has beaten fighters like Milton Nunez, Daniel Geale, Marco Antonio Rubio, David Lemieux and many others. The Kazakhstani star excelled at amateur level too, winning gold at the 2003 World Championships and silver at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

As world champion, Golovkin defeated a number of opponents including Kell Brook and Daniel Jacobs. Ultimately, Alvarez prevented Golovkin from coming away with the win when they drew in an epic 2017 contest.

However, Alvarez proved to be the victor in 2018, beating Golovkin in a close and controversial match. Gennady followed up with a number of additional victories and he will be eyeing revenge against the Mexican this weekend.

Golovkin has a net worth of $30 million (£26m) which he has built over his career. Between 2017 and 2018, Golovkin earned $25m (£20.8m) from purses and endorsements, making him one of the highest-paid athletes in the world.

In the first fight against Alvarez, Golovkin earned a $5m purse as well as total of $22m from PPV earnings. When the two had a rematch in September of 2018, he was guaranteed $15m although many believe this reached as high as $30m.

In 2018, Golovkin signed a three-year, six-fight deal with DAZN worth $100m (£86.5m). Aside from the loss to Alvarez, ‘GGG’ won each and every fight during this time and his record currently stands at 42-1-1 – with his only blemishes coming against his great rival.

Golovkin will face Alvarez for the third time on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He will be competing for the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring super middleweight world titles.
