Fury says Joshua "didn’t want" unification bout in fresh swipe at rival
Tyson Fury has dismissed Anthony Joshua as a “pumped-up weightlifter”, claiming he never truly wanted to fight him.
Fury claims Joshua had a lucky escape when their planned £200million showdown in Saudi Arabia fell through because he was ordered to face Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight.
The unbeaten WBC heavyweight king insists he is not disappointed to be facing Wilder again and says he aims to give the Bronze Bomber another beating on July 24 at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.
“There’s no disappointment, there’s nothing,” said the Gypsy King, who stopped Wilder in seven rounds in his last fight in February 2021.
“I’m doing this fight, I’m fighting a top heavyweight, he’s still the most dangerous heavyweight in the world for me.
“Joshua is irrelevant. He’s a pumped-up bum dosser, a useless dosser.
“It was too good for him that the fight didn’t happen, he didn’t want it anyway, he’s a s***house I don’t want to hear about him.
“I have to deal with the most dangerous and concussive puncher in the sport. I don’t want to hear about a pumped-up weightlifter.”
Fury, 32, was in a spiky mood as he spoke before his press conference with Wilder in Los Angeles last night to announce officially their trilogy fight.
He claimed he made £50million ($70million) last year, but that he doesn’t care about money.
The Traveller insists he is only interested in fighting because that is what he was born to do.
“The only thing I care about is fighting,” he said. “I made $70million last year and I would have made a lot more if I’d had more fights. But has it changed me, has it made any difference? Has it f**k!
“I don’t care about the money. There was talk of me getting £75million-£100million for the Joshua fight.
“What’s it going to do for my life? Nothing. I don’t care about any of that. I only care about fighting because that’s what I was bred to do.
“I don’t care about history. I don’t care about being remembered, I don’t care about the belts. I care about f**k all, except getting in and out of the ring in one piece.
“I don’t care about going down as a legend, I live for today.
“I don’t care about pound-for-pound ratings, I don’t care about being remembered, I don’t care about being undisputed, I don’t care about winning belts.
“I don’t care about winning money, all I care about is fighting and that’s difference between me and them.
“I love to fight, they love the business, the fame that comes with boxing. I love to fight, nothing else.”
