Tommy Fury insists his team HAVE contacted Jake Paul in a bid to reschedule their fight as Love Island star continues to campaign for a clash with YouTuber after withdrawing from Tampa date

  • Tommy Fury’s team have contacted Jake Paul to reschedule their boxing bout
  • Fury withdrew from their Tampa date due to a chest issue and broken ribs
  • Paul went onto knockout former UFC champion Tyron Woodley sensationally
  • The American has shut the door on a Fury fight but the Briton is still hopeful

Tommy Fury has revealed that his team have contacted Jake Paul’s camp to reschedule a clash in the ring after the Love Island star opened up on the agony of missing out on his bout against the YouTuber this month.

Fury was due to meet Paul last weekend in Tampa, Florida, but withdrew with a chest infection and broken rib and was replaced by former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, who was spectacularly knocked out in his rematch with the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

Paul has since called out UFC stars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal, and has ridiculed Fury for missing out on his most lucrative pay day to date.

Yet Fury still has high hopes of meeting the American in the ring next year, and said on Instagram that his team have reached out to the 24-year-old’s camp to reschedule the fight.

‘Just so you’re all aware, my team have reached out to @JakePaul team in regards to a rescheduled fight,’ Fury posted on Wednesday.

‘He knows where it’s at and knows I want this fight. He’s made comments saying we’ve been ‘silent’ which is absolutely not the case.’

Fury’s latest post comes after he opened up on his devastation following his withdrawal from the December 18 contest.

The American says that the door is closed on a rescheduled date with the British fighter

He told The Unibet Lowdown podcast: ‘I’ve been in probably the lowest point I’ve ever been in in my entire life. Imagine having everything you could have ever dreamed of ripped away through no fault of your own.

‘The chest was one thing, and it is terrible, but then having a rib break was just the icing on the cake.

‘Even now I don’t think I’ve fully swallowed that pill, and I don’t think I will because it would have been such a massive, easy night for me.’

When asked for his verdict on the bout itself, he added: ‘You’re in a bad place when the commentator on your fight is saying “it is getting pretty hard to watch now”. It was very upsetting for me to sit there and watch it.

‘I know if I was in there it wouldn’t have gone six or seven rounds. For the first four or five rounds, the guy didn’t throw a punch. That was meant to be my night, my time.

‘The people that know me know how much of a bitter pill that was. It should have been me in Tampa Bay, Florida, in front of thousands of people in a packed out arena.’
