Fury given deadline to face Wilder which confirms Anthony Joshua postponement

Tyson Fury has been given a deadline to face Deontay Wilder as the postponement of his fight with Anthony Joshua is confirmed.

The Gypsy King was due to take on his British rival in a heavyweight unification bout on August 14 in Saudi Arabia.

But the fight was thrown into chaos as judge Daniel Weinstein ruled that the 32-year-old has to complete a third fight against the American.

And ESPN reporter Mark Kriegel has reported that Fury has also been set a deadline for the trilogy bout.

The Gypsy King, who took the WBC belt off Wilder in March 2020 after fighting to a draw 15 months previously, must fight his American rival by September 15.

The WBC heavyweight champion has been in arbitration with the American for months over a contracted third fight between the pair.

That was pencilled in for July 2020 but it was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Then it was pushed back until December but both sides could not agree on a date.

Wilder's team wanted to push it back further into early 2021 but Fury did not want to wait any longer.

The Gypsy King said he was moving on from the fight, was set to compete in December and then focus on a fight with WBA, IBF and WBO champion Joshua this summer.

But Fury's December bout fell through and negotiations with Joshua continued for a summer blockbuster in Saudi Arabia.

All through AJ negotiations, though, both Fury and Wilder's camps were taking part in a mediation over the contract from their fight.

But now judge Daniel Weinstein – who oversaw the arbitration – has ruled that a rematch must take place.

If the British heavyweight can't get out of the third fight then the undisputed clash with Joshua will be forced to wait.

Fury could face Wilder this summer before facing Joshua later in the year.

But that will be a huge blow to Joshua and his team who were fully focussed on a summer fight with Fury.
