Tyson Fury has described theories that he was ‘holding up’ Derek Chisora during their fight earlier this month as ‘ ludicrous’. The Gypsy King stopped Chisora in the tenth round of their trilogy bout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of 60,000 fans.
Chisora was rocked on multiple occasions but never touched the canvas in a one-sided beating that became harder and harder to watch as the rounds went on. In the end, referee Victor Loughlin made the compassionate decision to step in and wave off the contest – much to the relief of many.
But some boxing fans believe Fury had the chance to stop the fight earlier but didn’t in order to get the rounds in after eight months away from the ring. Others even claim he ‘held up’ Chisora throughout their third fight.
Responding to those accusations, Fury told iFL TV: “I just think it’s nonsense to be honest. He’s a tough old fella Chisora, he was taking punishment, a lot of good punches. All this talk about me holding him, absolute ludicrous talk. Why would I want to hold him up? I was trying to get him out of there from round one but he’s that tough I couldn’t.”
