Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are expected to make an announcement about the date of their undisputed fight this week, the Ukrainian’s promoter has told Mail Sport’s boxing podcast The Hook.
Fury and Usyk are set to stage the first heavyweight fight for all of the marbles since 1997 and are believed to be planning a bout for February 2024 – having initially planned a showdown for December 23 this year.
However, Fury’s unconvincing split decision win over MMA star Francis Ngannou – which left him with a black eye after the nervy encounter in Saudi Arabia last month – has left the Gypsy King needing more time to recover.
The fight also saw Fury knocked down by the Cameroonian in round three – and after watching his display in the Middle East, Krassyuk was far from impressed by what he saw.
‘It was definitely not his best performance,’ he told Mail Sport’s Charlotte Daly on The Hook. ‘Not even close to his to his [best] performance. I’ve never seen him like that and I hope I will never see him like that. Listen, he won the fight. There is no doubt about it. But the way he did it did not look good.

Alexander Krassyuk said he was happy for Fury to have more time before facing Usyk
‘[Usyk] was sweating all the fight because there was a chance for Tyson to lose. Can you imagine? If he loses, who will watch this fight?’
When asked if the performance from Fury gave Usyk any added confidence, Krassyuk added: ‘You know, Usyk is such a great professional that he knew all the weaknesses that Tyson Fury has. Did it bring any extra confidence? No, Usyk has always been confident in what he does.’
He also said he was happy to give Fury extra time to prepare his fight with Usyk – if it meant fans were given a better spectacle.
‘It depends on how he gonna spend this time. If it brings him to a better shape and better spirit, then definitely yes. But we remember Tyson after he defeated [Wladimir] Klitschko and was supposed to fight in the rematch, he spent his time, let’s say, not in the best manner.’
Krassyuk was then asked when exactly fans could expect to hear about a fixed fight date for Fury Usyk.
‘We plan to make some announcements next week,’ he said on Saturday, before hailing the Saudi boxing officials planning the showdown.
‘Listen, these people are amazing people,’ he went on. ‘They are very professional, and they have huge knowledge and experience in sports. So they understand it clearly, and they want to make it. So they put all the efforts to match all the all the wants and needs of the fighters.
‘These are the champions. The champion is fighting the champion. They want to make them feel comfortable. So that’s what they do and they do it perfectly.’
