Frank Warren reveals how Tyson Fury reacted to Anthony Joshua's shock defeat

Tyson Fury was bemused by Anthony Joshua’s approach in his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk and feels their heavyweight super fight is now ‘down the drain’, according to his co-promoter Frank Warren.

Joshua lost his belts for the second time in his career after a sub-par performance against former cruiserweight Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night, with the Ukrainian out-boxing his opponent to win by unanimous decision.

AJ will now activate a rematch clause, which is set to take place at the start of 2022, once again delaying the prospect of seeing him finally face off against fellow Brit Fury.

The Gypsy King – who takes on Deontay Wilder for a third time in just under two weeks – has yet to react publicly to Joshua’s latest loss but did speak to his promoter as he witnessed Usyk’s upset unfolding.

‘He [Joshua] just wasn’t doing what you’d think a bigger guy would do,’ Warren told talkSPORT. ‘I spoke to Tyson during the fight and we were both of the same opinion.

‘All Tyson could see was a massive big fight going down the drain, which is what happened.’

Before the fight, Fury had encouraged Joshua to box on the front foot, make use of his size and weight advantage and really pressure Usyk, but the dethroned champ did the opposite.

Warren was astonished and confused by Joshua’s approach – even the 31-year-old’s own promoter, Eddie Hearn, was critical of his cautious gameplan – and feels Fury would absolutely dominate him if they do ever meet.

He continued: ‘You would’ve thought the bigger man would have imposed himself. He just did not do it and didn’t do it in any part of the fight. Not in any part of that fight was he dominant.
