Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren feels the Gypsy King’s eagerly anticipated all-British heavyweight fight against Anthony Joshua can still go ahead, despite Joshua losing to Oleksandr Usyk last week.

The 31-year-old from Watford was defeated on home soil by Usyk the weekend before last, as the Ukrainian put in a remarkable performance to defeat ‘AJ’ in front of 65,000 fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Warren’s client Fury was in extensive talks with Joshua’s camp to organise a bout between the two Britons before a court ruled that Fury must take on two-time opponent Deontay Wilder for a third time following a clause in their rematch contract.

As a result talks between the two camps collapsed, leading to Joshua taking on Usyk just under two weeks’ ago and Fury facing off with Wilder in Las Vegas this weekend.

Ahead of the trilogy fight at the T-Mobile Arena, promoter Warren addressed the chances of his client one day taking on Joshua.

Warren said in an interview with BBC Sport: “If Tyson wins the fight we’ll sit down. There’s a few options there. Usyk would be a massive fight. The Joshua fight is still a massive fight.

“I do believe the public buys into that fight even if AJ isn’t champion. If he did fight Tyson he would have a lot to prove and I do think the public would buy into it.”

Whilst talking up the fight the 69-year-old also spoke about what he believed the outcome would be if the British pair met, and unsurprisingly backed his client to dominate.

Warren commented: “Joshua is a big fight. They keep talking about him still learning. He’s 32 years old. He’s an Olympic champion and world champion.

“Of course you can still learn every day, but at that level, at 32 years of age, with the experience you’ve got and the amount of professional fights you’ve got, if you’re not absolutely world class at that level then you’re never going to be.

“But having said that, if he did fight Tyson he would have a lot to prove and I do think the public would buy into it.”

Another dent in the chances of the Joshua/Fury fight is the fact that the former is now expected to take on his recent competitor Usyk in a rematch, in order to regain the titles he lost in London.

Furthermore, 33-year-old Fury insisted following his fight with Wilder in the United States he would like to return to the UK for his next bout, and with the original clash between the English pair set to take place in Saudi Arabia before cancellation, the fight is beginning to look more and more unlikely.

Discussing the idea of Fury returning to home soil following his bout with the Bronze Bomber, Warren said: “There’s no [Americans] out there for him to fight. I think he’ll be back here which will be a great homecoming.”

The 33-year-old’s last five fights have all come in the States, with his most recent in the UK coming three years ago when he defeated Francesco Pianeta at Windsor Park in Belfast.
