Franchon Crews-Dezurn booed as she sings her own national anthem before fight
Franchon Crews-Dezurn made the bold decision to sing the national anthem of the United States before putting her undisputed super middleweight world championship belts on the line.
The 36-year-old American boxer belted out The Star-Spangled Banner before her Manchester fight night against Savannah Marshall with her four titles and The Ring crown at stake on Saturday (July 1).
The rendition, which came after the God Save the King, was brutally booed by the home fans of Marshall, despite Crews-Dezurn's past as an American Idol contestant – with social media users full of praise.
One fan wrote on social media: "Crews-Dezurn singing the national anthem before her fight has got to be the first of it’s kind. Across all sports, I’ve never seen that before."

A second added: "Crews-Dezurn is doing a knockout rendition of the national anthem!" A third posted: "Wow. How impressive is this. Magnificent stuff."
Unfortunately for the Virginia fighter, her professional record fell to 8-2 as Marshall, trained by Tyson Fury's uncle Peter, won by majority decision.
The 32-year-old is the undisputed super middleweight champion after losing her WBO female middleweight title to Claressa Shields last October.

Shields, who also handed Crews-Dezurn's her only previous career defeat, was in attendance at the AO Arena and offered Marshall a ringside warning.
She said on Sky Sports after Marshall won by scores of 95-95, 99-92, 97-93: "If Savannah comes to the USA, I will fight her at whatever weight she wants to fight at.
"She is going to get beat up in America, that's what is going to happen."
Marshall had said of the bout: "I can't describe how I'm feeling at the minute. I think I broke my hand on her head, a tough, tough woman.
"Some of the rounds were close, but I felt like I landed the cleaner work.
"If she (Shields) wants it (the rematch), let's do it. I'm sure she'll want to try and unify another division."
