Final Paul vs Mayweather purse and prize money as pay-per-view sales confirmed
Floyd Mayweather can expect to bank at least $65million from his exhibition bout with Logan Paul after one million sales of their fight were recorded.
Mayweather was taken the full eight-round distance by YouTube star Logan Paul last weekend in a bout that had no declared winner.
But that didn't stop the event being a hit at the box office with $50m generated from the sales on Showtime and Fanmio in the United States.
Mayweather is understood to agreed a deal whereby he earns 50 per cent of the pay-per-view sales, making his share around $25m.
He is also believed to have received a $10m flat fee and claimed he earned $30m from the sponsors on his shorts, taking his total earnings to $65m.
Paul, meanwhile, will reportedly earn 10 per cent of the pay-per-view sales ($5m) and is believed to have earned a flat fee of $250,000.
He also secured significant sponsorship and previously did not argue with his podcast host who claimed he would earn an eight-figure sum (at least $10m) for the bout.
The pay-per-view sales figure compares favourably with professional boxing bouts and is 200,000 more than the number who watched Tyson Fury's heavyweight world title rematch with Deontay Wilder last year.
It is also a similar number to several of Mayweather's professional fights, including his 2013 win over Robert Guerrero.
And Mayweather made no effort to hide the fact he considered his bout with Paul to be a simple money-making exercise.
"I believe in working smarter, not harder. So if it’s something easy like [the Paul fight], a legalised bank robbery, I've got to do it. I have to do it,” he said before the fight.
"My nickname is ‘Money’ for a reason… I worked extremely hard for years and years to get to a certain level. A level where we can start calling everything an event."
And following the final bell he added: “They say, ‘It’s not all about the money.’ Well, your kids can’t eat legacy. The patches on my trunks, [earned me] $30 million alone.
"So who’s really the smartest one in the sport of boxing? When it comes to legalised bank robbing, I’m the best."
Paul, meanwhile, appears ready to continue his 'fighting' career and has set his sights on an even greater challenge.
His advisor Guadalupe Valencia. told ESPN: "We have to see what makes the most financial sense, but it's going to be something big.
“So who’s really the smartest one in the sport of boxing? When it comes to legalized bank robbing, I’m the best,” said Mayweather.
"Everything he does from this moment forward, he's the 'A' side. It's always going to be big. That's just the way it is. That's just the reality after today.
"The next fight is going to be bigger. Bigger than Floyd. He went eight rounds with Floyd. His next fight is going to be even bigger, because now he's the person they want to see fight.
"I don't know what Floyd is doing next, but people want to see what Logan is doing next."
