Evander Holyfield vs. Vitor Belfort live fight updates, results, highlights from 2021 boxing match
Evander Holyfield will return to a boxing ring for the first time in a decade when he faces former UFC champion Vitor Belfort in the main event of Triller Fight Club’s pay-per-view card from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., on Saturday night.
Holyfield, the only four-time heavyweight champion, announced his return to the ring May 6, 2020. He intended to box for #Unite4OurFight, a cause that he said provides social and emotional development resources to children.
He was initially expected to fight former Irish heavyweight Kevin McBride — who notably retired Mike Tyson with a technical knockout victory in June 2005 — on the undercard of unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez Jr. vs. George Kambosos Jr., but the bout was postponed after Lopez tested positive for COVID-19.
Holyfield stepped in to fight Belfort on Sept. 3 when former six-division champion Oscar De La Hoya was forced to withdraw because of a positive COVID-19 test. Holyfield, who is just over a month shy of turning 59, would have been/is believed to be the second-oldest fighter to ever compete in a professional boxing match.
Belfort, a former UFC light heavyweight champion who has appeared in just one previous boxing match in his career, last fought in the MMA organization in May 2018, when he lost by knockout to Lyoto Machida. Belfort was previously the youngest fighter to score a victory inside the Octagon, winning the UFC 12 Heavyweight Tournament in February 1997.
In 25 career UFC fights, Belfort had 14 finishes, tied for the third-most in the organization’s history.
