Eubank Jr reveals he was NOT told about Benn's first failed drugs test

Chris Eubank Jr reveals he was NOT told about Conor Benn’s first failed drugs test… and claims he ‘wouldn’t have accepted the fight’ in the first place if he’d known his rival had tested positive earlier

  • Conor Benn failed two drugs tests ahead of his fight with Chris Eubank Jr
  • The bout was cancelled, and Eubank Jr has now said he was not informed about the first failed test
  • Eubank Jr has claimed he would not have signed for the fight if he had known about Benn’s first positive test

Chris Eubank Jr has claimed that he was not told about Conor Benn’s first failed drugs test, and only found out about his rival providing an adverse finding after his second positive test.

Eubank Jr and Benn were set to face each other in a grudge match last month, but the fight got pulled two days before when Benn tested positive for the banned substance clomifene.

Benn subsequently revealed that he tested positive for the same substance in July, but Eubank Jr has insisted he was not informed about this.

Eubank Jr has claimed he was not told about Benn’s first failed test earlier this year

‘I wouldn’t have accepted the fight in August if I’d known he’d failed a test before,’ Eubank Jr told Sky Sports. ‘By the time I did find out it was too late.’

Eubank Jr’s version of events differs from those coming out of Benn’s camp, with promoter Eddie Hearn assuring fans in the aftermath of the cancelled bout that Eubank Jr and all relevant parties were kept in the loop the whole time.

Speaking to talkSPORT last month, Hearn said: ‘Firstly, nothing was kept quiet. This is a really important fact. People feel this was brushed under the carpet.

‘But, the British boxing board of control which are our governing body and the regulators – who decide if a fight will take place or not – knew all information at all points.

Eddie Hearn claimed Eubank Jr was informed about Benn’s failed tests, but Eubank Jr has now disputed this

‘It is ultimately up to the British Boxing Board of Control to sanction the fight. Chris Eubank and Wasserman came back and said, based on the information we have received around the test, we are happy to continue with the fight.’

Benn is now trying to clear his name, having maintained his innocence ever since the positive tests were made public.

Meanwhile, Eubank Jr has moved on for now and is due to return to the ring to take on domestic foe Liam Smith on January 21.

He has admitted that he is still interested in finally settling the score with Benn in the future, though, but would only take the fight if his rival tests clean and is willing to move up to middleweight.
