Eddie Hearn vows to continue legal fight after Benn vs Eubank Jr postponement
Eddie Hearn and Matchroom have hit out at the British Boxing Board of Control and insisted they will continue their legal fight over Conor Benn’s clash with Chris Eubank Jr.
The promoters officially postponed the bout on Thursday after over 24 hours of legal wrangling. Benn, 25, tested positive for a fertility drug in a sample provided to the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association last month.
The BBBofC said they “prohibited” the fight proceeding on Saturday at the O2 after the test result was revealed on Wednesday. But Hearn was pushing for the fight to go ahead because the BBBofC had not suspended Benn and he claimed they had no power to as the test was not done by UK Anti-Doping who do doping control for the boxing authority.

They were set to take the matter to the High Court but pulled the plug after learning a decision could have taken too long with the bout to take place on Saturday. It was believed the matter may have rumbled on until Friday night.
Now the fight is postponed but Matchroom and Wasserman – who promote Eubank Jr – have said they will continue their legal battle in a joint statement. It said: “After discussions with various parties, we have taken the decision to formally postpone the bout between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.
“It is undeniable that the British Boxing Board of Control’s decision to withdraw their sanctioning was procedurally flawed and without due process. That remains a legal issue between the promoters and the Board which we intend to pursue.
“However, whilst there are legal routes to facilitate the fight taking place as planned, we do not believe that it is in the fighters’ interests for those to be pursued at such a late stage, or in the wider interests of the sport.
“As promoters, we take our obligations and duties very seriously, and a full investigation will now need to take place. “We will be making no further comment at this time and news for ticket holder refunds will follow.”
