Eddie Hearn has urged boxing fans to ‘let the information come out’ before making ‘their own decisions’ on the postponement of Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr.

The heavily-anticipated fight was called off on Thursday after Benn failed a drugs test, shocking the boxing world just two days before the catchweight bout.

Hearn, however, has claimed that the fight could still have gone ahead if the parties involved wanted it to, denying he went to court after the news broke.

Eddie Hearn has urged fans to wait for information over the Benn v Eubank postponement

The bout was postponed after Sportsmail revealed on Thursday Benn had failed a drugs test

‘At that point (after board called off the fight) we are faced with the situation of actually, the board’s decision can be legally challenged and we will win based on precedent, based on the board rules, or we have a decision to use a different commission which is the easiest thing to do,’ Hearn said.

‘We could’ve gone ahead with this fight with 3-4 commissions that were willing to stage this fight.

‘We did not appear in court as I read somewhere. We spoke to our lawyers, our lawyers said to us we believe you will win an arbitration to move forward with this fight and it was decided not to ultimately. The fight was pulled by us, the parties. It was the right decision in my opinion.’

Benn’s failed test led to Saturday’s fight at the O2 Arena with Chris Eubank Jr being cancelled

Hearn added that the promotion paid for extra testing for the bout, before urging frustrated fans to wait for all the information about the events leading up to the postponement before jumping to conclusions.

‘He (Benn) has got a very tricky time coming up,’ Hearn said.

‘Eventually people will be able to make their own decisions and everything. I feel like because I’ve been here before in situations, you should let the information come out.

Matchroom confirmed that the fight had officially been ‘postponed’ on Thursday afternoon

‘We also paid as part of the promotion and the request of the fighters, additional testing for this bout.

‘The fighters requested along with us as we do for all big championship fights particularly, and it very expensive, that additional testing was in place.’

‘We already knew before that article dropped in the Daily Mail that the board had said we’re not prepared to sanction this fight because we do not feel it’s in the best interest of boxing.’
