Eddie Hearn doubts Tyson Fury is ready for Deontay Wilder trilogy fight
Eddie Hearn doubts Tyson Fury is ready for his upcoming trilogy with Deontay Wilder.
The Matchroom Boxing boss still believes Fury has what it takes to comfortably take care of his rival, but says that his inability to get into peak shape means that Wilder can land a big right hand and change the heavyweight division.
A win for Wilder would, along with Oleksandr Usyk's recent victory over Anthony Joshua, completely throw the cat amongst the pigeons.
It had appeared until last weekend that Joshua and Fury were on a collision course to fight for the undisputed heavyweight title, but there are now a number of options moving forward.
And there will likely be more different fights to be made should Wilder defeat Fury on October 9 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“ Tyson Fury doesn’t look ready, in my opinion,” Hearn said during an interview with Boxing Social. “I still think he’ll win comfortably, but it does throw in the likelihood of a mistake happening.
"If you make a mistake against Deontay Wilder, it could cost you the fight. He’s very dangerous.
“I don’t see him [Fury] losing a round, but it doesn’t really matter. One mistake, and it can be over."
And Hearn has said that, for the benefit of his own stable, he wants a Fury victory next month.
His charge Dillian Whyte has been number one contender for the belt that Fury holds; the WBC title, for a number of years, even losing his status as top challenger and winning it back in the time it has taken to get a shot at the strap.
And Hearn is hopeful that he will get his shot against Fury once the Brit beats Wilder, having previously stated that he finds Wilder tough to deal with.
“I genuinely hope he wins because I want the WBC to order the mandatory of Fury-Whyte."
Joshua has already exercised his rematch clause to face Usyk again for the rest of the belts at heavyweight, with early next year the likely timeframe.

It will probably be held in the UK again, after the last bout sold over 63,000 tickets at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London.
Usyk's promoter Alex Krassyuk has established that Joshua was already committed to a rematch between the pair, and activated his right to the second meeting.
“According to my understanding he has already activated the rematch clause,” Krassyuk told Boxing Social.
“Because the first thing he said when he came in the ring to the corner was ‘We will see you in the rematch’.
“He didn’t even consider it as a possibility, it was just a decision already and I heard that Hearn and AJ himself were discussing the rematch not just as fact.
“They were also discussing the time, and what Joshua has to do to win so I think it will happen and only some extraordinary circumstances will change it.
"But as of right now, the rematch will happen.
