Dillian Whyte’s punch and Tyson Fury’s reaction leaves referee reading riot act
Dillian Whyte’s late shot and Tyson Fury’s subsequent reaction saw the referee chastising the pair.
Fury, 33, beat the London-born fighter at Wembley on Saturday night with a brutal knockout in the sixth round to retain his WBC title. But in the fourth round, the pair locked horns and Whyte’s elbow was seen scraping Fury's face.
It looked as though the strike was missed by referee Mark Lyson, who tried to split the pair up. But the Gyspy King was left fuming over the loose arm to his face.
And even viewers vented their anger online. One wrote: “Whyte needs a point taking off him!!!! elbows, arms & head buts!?”
Another said: “Whyte was totally out of his depth, never got near Tyson really, landed more elbows than punches!”
A third wrote: “Whyte trying all the dirty tactics because he’s just completely outclassed tonight as he always is at world level. Rabbit punches and elbow use, looking amateurish and sour in there.”
Someone said: “Classic Whyte. Did it against Parker. Rabbit punches, going in with the head. Elbows in the face. How he’s never been pulled on it before I don’t know.”

A last one wrote: “Whyte rubbing his elbow in Tyson’s face. Mike Beltran would stop that.”
The towering Morecambe-based brawler beat Whyte in every round before landing an uppercut that sent Whyte to the canvas. The 34-year-old tried to get up again, but he started to stumble as the ref was counting and the competition was brought to a halt.
After the contest, Fury reaffirmed that it was his last fight. “I promised my lovely wife Paris, after Wilder III, that would be it. But I got offered to fight at Wembley, at home, and I believe I owed my fans this … now that’s done, I really think this could be it. And what a way to go out!”
While the Manchester-born fighter also talked up his opponent and his mettle. “Dillian Whyte is a warrior, and I believe he’ll be a world champion – but tonight, he met a warrior," Fury said. "He’s got the heart of a lion, but he’s messing with the best heavyweight on the planet. I think Lennox Lewis would be proud of that right uppercut!”
