Dillian Whyte fears he could miss out on Tyson Fury fight amid retirement links
Dillian Whyte has admitted he fears missing out on a world title shot against Tyson Fury with retirement links continuing.
The 33-year-old has been forced to withdraw from his recent challenge against Otto Wallin after suffering a shoulder injury in training camp.
But he now looks set to face Fury next with the WBC set to rule on his status as mandatory challenger and order the fight in the coming days.
And now the 'Body Snatcher' has admitted he is not entirely convinced that his long-awaited shot at Fury will take place despite his status.
“I am not that convinced this will happen, you don’t know really what is going to happen with Fury," Whyte said. "He says he is a fighting man and I believe he is a fighting man so I hope that he takes the fight and it is mandated by the WBC.
“The fight makes sense and I think this time he will fight, but I don’t know why these guys are even in the running, it should just be me and him. I have earned the fight and continuously worked hard, fighting more top ten contenders than most other champions.
"You can never bank on anything with him because he might just decide he's had enough.
“I don’t care who promotes the fight, I just want the fight and the belt is good but I am here to fight. I have the opportunity to fight the greatest of all time as everyone is saying at the moment."
Whyte has faced several allegations that he "faked" his injury to push for a fight with Fury next year.
In the meantime his clash with Wallin appears to have been put to one side while he chases a shot at his undefeated British rival.
Fury is now arguably the biggest fight in the division after cementing his lineal champion status with a historic second victory over Deontay Wilder.
And Whyte has emphasised the size of the fight explaining his long-standing desire to clash with Fury irrespective of the world title being at stake.

"I don’t pull out of fights, as you can see I am in great shape and I have been doing leg work when I can to try and keep my conditioning," Whyte continued.
“It is a fight I have wanted for a long time it is a major fight, who would you want to see me fight out of Wallin and Fury? It is a good fight, Fury needs to come back to the UK and we were meant to fight twice before anyway.
“I don’t know if there will be purse bids, and the people who do business will say to me what we are doing and I will do what they tell me.
“I don’t care what happens as long as me and Fury fight regardless of the belt or the networks. For me where I have come from I think this is major."
Whyte now faces an anxious wait to see if his fight will be ordered and if Fury will take the fight.
But the 'Gypsy King' has dropped subtle hints at retirement since his victory over Wilder and is currently out of action with a planned return date set for March or April next year.
