Dillian Whyte claims Tyson Fury will have to achieve a lot more in his career if he wants to be known as the best heavyweight boxer of all time. The Briton admitted Fury might be the best around right now, but reeled off a list of names from past generations who he feels have achieved more in the sport.

Whyte is the WBC interim champion and is gunning for a meeting in the ring with the Gypsy King, who is undefeated in 32 professional fights.

After defeating challenger Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight, Fury wants to take on the winner of the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua so he can try to unify the division.

But while he waits for that rematch he will have to face the WBC mandatory challenger, which was set to by Whyte if he beat Otto Wallin on October 30.

But that fight has been called off after the Briton sustained a shoulder injury less than a week out from the fight, but he has continued his trash talk about Fury in anticipation of a future meeting nevertheless.

Northerner Fury said he was the “greatest heavyweight of the era” after beating Wilder in their third meeting, while some fans even went as far as to say he is the best of all time.

But Whyte has dismissed such claims, suggesting the Gypsy King will have to do a lot more to be considered alongside some of the sport’s most legendary names.

“Who has he fought? Deontay Wilder and [Wladimir] Klitschko, he can’t call himself the greatest,” Whyte told CNN.

“Okay, you might be the best heavyweight around in your era now because you haven’t lost, then you beat everyone put in front of you. But you’re not the greatest.

“You haven’t even achieved half of what Lennox Lewis has achieved… Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman – all of these guys.”

Whyte’s scheduled clash with Wallin may end up being put back on at a later date, but the Briton has made no secret of the fact he’d rather skip that meeting and go straight for his compatriot in a shot at the WBC title.

As well as the prospect of winning a world title belt, the ‘Body Snatcher’ would love to be the one to end Fury’s undefeated record.

“Fury’s got the world title and that’s what I’ve been waiting for, that’s what I’ve worked for,” he told talkSPORT.

“I don’t even know how much sanctioning fees I’ve paid. I could’ve easily abandoned this route and gone down another route years ago, but I’ve waited and I’ve waited and I’ve waited.

“So what am I gonna do? Fight Otto Wallin or fight Tyson Fury, what are you gonna do? It’s common sense.

“That’s for me and his team to sort out at the end of the day.

“We don’t know what Tyson Fury is going to do. He might just tomorrow say “Yeah, that’s it. I’m done.”

“He might go missing. He might disappear. We were ready before this fight. He’s pulled out of two fights with me before.”

Whyte also said he would want the all-British fight to take place in front of a UK crowd, though Fury’s joint-promoter Bob Arum has recently hinted that any future fight involving Fury would have to take place in Las Vegas.
