Deontay Wilder has power of Mike Tyson but "no class" slams Tony Bellew
Tony Bellew has slammed former rival Deontay Wilder, stating the American is like a “bull in a china shop” and “doesn’t know what he’s doing.”
Wilder and Bellew famously confronted one another in 2017 at the weigh-ins for Anthony Joshua’s clash with Wladimir Klitschko and discussed the Bronze Bomber’s famous knockout power.
Bellew told the American “I’ve dealt with the second-most dangerous heavyweight on the planet. I’ve dealt with someone more powerful than you. David [Haye’s] more powerful than you.”
Wilder responded “You know what separates me from all the heavyweights? How I knock a motherf****r out. Not only have I broken sockets. Not only have I broken bones. But I make them seize on the ground.”
Since their confrontation, while Bellew has retired from professional boxing and launched a successful career in the media, Wilder has continued to fight and was most recently defeated by Tyson Fury in the 2020 rematch of their 2018 draw.
Now, just weeks away from Wilder’s upcoming trilogy clash with Fury, Bellew has blasted his former rival’s ability again, likening the former Olympic bronze medallist to a bull in a china shop.
Do you think Deontay Wilder stands a chance against Tyson Fury in their upcoming fight? Let us know in the comments section below.
“There’s telegraphing punches and then there’s skimming the lights above the ring – that’s what Deontay Wilder was doing. His punches were that wild and that crude. He was out of control.
"He may have crazy power and he might be the biggest punching heavyweight since Mike Tyson, but he has no class and he has no skillset to match that power.
“So it’s like a bull in a china shop. He doesn’t know what he’s doing.
“He can’t set his attacks up, his jab was just useless in the fight, he didn’t know what to do. Even when he had Tyson Fury down and out [in the first fight] he couldn’t finish him.
“Think about this, if Tyson Fury gets dropped by Anthony Joshua, do you genuinely believe he’s going to be able to see out the round?
“Anthony Joshua is one of the best finishers…. right now he’s the best finisher in the heavyweight division.”
