Deontay Wilder attacks "coward" Tyson Fury for trying to fight Anthony Joshua
Deontay Wilder has attacked bitter-rival Tyson Fury, labelling the Gypsy King a “coward”, after Fury pursued a bout with fellow Brit Anthony Joshua instead of a trilogy contest with Wilder.
Fury and Joshua were reportedly in the final stages of negotiating a blockbuster heavyweight unification bout, set to take place in Saudi Arabia, only for an arbitration court to order Fury vs. Wilder III.
Now, days after the decision was made, Wilder has launched a scathing attack on Fury. In an interview with 78SportsTV, the former Olympian called Fury a “coward” and claimed the Gypsy King intended to avoid him.
"Of course, I look at it as a coward way of trying to avoid me. For what reason? We know the reason and he knows the reason.
"I’m ready to get this title back. We were contractually obligated to have a fight.
"He gave his word. When you do all that – and we have the proof – you've got to abide by that.
"You got to handle the business, and you can’t close the chapter without going through Deontay Wilder."
Fury and Wilder have previously met in the boxing ring twice. Their first bout in 2018 ended in a draw, with Wilder largely considered the beneficiary of a poor decision.
The two would meet again in 2020, and this time Fury refused to let it go the distance, instead walking Wilder down, suffocating the American with pressure, and knocking him out in the 7th round.
Do you think Wilder can beat Fury in their trilogy contest? Let us know in the comments below.
Since, Wilder has made a number of changes to his coaching staff and training regime, and with a date now announced for the trilogy contest, the American is fired up and ready to go.
“Now that we have an ETA and location of where we’re about to go, it makes training much more intensified. Now it means something; it’s for certain now.
“There’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. You’ve got to go through me. I’m the hardest puncher in heavyweight history and I’m going to continue to do that.”
Deontay Wilder will meet Tyson Fury in a bout currently slated for July 24th , set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
