David Adeleye brands rival Fabio Wardley a ‘donut’ after press conference scrap
David Adeleye has labelled heavyweight rival Fabio Wardley a ‘donut’ after a press conference scrap almost got them both into a sticky situation.
The pair will face off for Wardley’s British title in Riyadh this weekend as the Lonsdale belt is contested outside the UK and Ireland for the first time in history. But the bout was almost called off before it was even announced when the pair had a scuffle at the press conference last month to confirm this weekend’s main event in Tyson Fury against Francis Ngannou.
Adeleye sparked the row when he pushed Wardley, who was left with a cut on his chin after he was hit by one of his rival’s team in ugly scenes but the BBBofC cleared both to fight for the title.

“My issue wasn’t even with Wardley, the altercation was with one of his team members and Wardley tried to walk over to me, a 17st heavyweight, so I’m not going to let him to do that,” said challenger Adeleye, 26. "I told him not to walk over, he still did that and I pushed him back. We were broke up.
“I didn’t give it too much thought, I went home, had my dinner and life was good, it was just another day in the office. Everyone was like ‘the fight won’t happen, it’s gone down bad’ but it’s just one of them things if it was me it was my motivation to get in the gym and go harder.

“I didn’t really even think of it like that. I just thought ‘you’re a donut’ and his team-mates tried it. He came with a load of guys and they got humbled.” Wardley, 28, and Adeleye will both put their unbeaten records on the line with the Commonwealth title also up for grabs.
“I do have something over him, I pushed him, I know he knows what sort of strength I’ve got, he went flying, I am solid,” Adeleye added. “I’d thought he would be a bit more firm. He walked over coming into battle with his chin out, he’s just a donut. He’s shown me certain things. It’s 1-0 to me, top bins.”

Londoner Adeleye claimed the pair will finally share a ring after Ipswich star Wardley pulled out of a sparring session in the past. He said: “We were meant to spar last year. I was told I was to spar him, I went to Ben Davison’s gym.
“I get to the gym and I’m halfway through my warm up and I’m told Wardley is not coming. “I’m like, ‘what?’. He turned around the motorway and said he didn’t feel well. I thought, ‘what an absolute s***house’.”
