Conor Benn would celebrate win over Chris Eubank Jr by painting and decorating

Conor Benn has rolled with the punches plenty of times – but he’s also a dab hand with the paint roller.

Even though his dad Nigel did his best to make a mess of his handiwork. Benn Jr, 25, could be celebrating a win over Chris Eubank Jr this weekend by getting the brushes out and finishing off his house painting.

The Destroyer admits it would have been a career choice if he didn’t follow his famous father into boxing. But he was busy before training camp doing the DIY even though he was set for a multi-million pound pay day by taking on the son of his father’s arch rival this weekend at the O2.

Even his old man – who has been in training camp with him for this weekend’s fight – chipped in when he was over from Australia. He said: “I really enjoyed painting and decorating. I find it so therapeutic.

“I just finished my whole house – well the downstairs – I had time off and fancied it. I challenged myself to do it all, cutting the coving, doing the skirting boards and cutting in. I even got a work out from rolling the ceilings, stuck a bit of music on and got a pump on.

“I enjoyed that. But my dad was over when I did it and he’s a nightmare for breaking things, he ended up doing a terrible job! I have exposed wooden beams in the ceiling and he got paint all over them.”

He laughed when it was put to him that the pair’s celebration could be doing the upstairs of his Essex home he shares with his wife Victoria and their son Eli.

But unbeaten Benn, who is 21-0 as a pro, is hoping to splatter rival and former world title challenger Eubank Jr this weekend at the O2 in London when the pair meet in a catchweight contest.

Eubank Jr has been teasing his critics with social media posts about tucking into birthday cake, steaks and KFC chicken.

That’s despite the fact he has to boil down to 157lb – 3lb below his usual middleweight limit – for the clash and endure a rehydration clause which means he needs to weigh in on Friday and Saturday.

But Benn is not buying into Eubank Jr’s social media persona being his real life.

He added: “Chris’ playboy Instagram account could be his way of getting followers or sponsors or it could be a way to trick opponents into thinking he doesn’t live the life. It could be a bit of both.

“That’s another one of his problems. He might be out partying until 3 and 4 in the morning and then going straight to training – like my old man used to! It worked OK for him.

“Social media means nothing. It’s all an illusion. But when you look in your opponent’s eye you will know.”
